I don't know if I should go to the ER, or just wait until I hear back from my GI Specialist.  I started taking Amitiza last week Thursday.  I was told to take 2 per day.  I'm worse than before - my hands are swollen now, I have shortness of breathe, my stomach is way more bloated, I look pregnant, my feet are now huge.  What the heck is going on, this medication was suppose to help me move my bowels so that I "wouldn't" be bloated anymore.  But instead, I'm 10x worse.  Why can't anyone help me figure out what is wrong with me.  I've been bloated and constipated for 9 straight months.  Something has to give, i can't take this much longer.  nothing fits, and it's painful.  In the last 2 months, I've had a colonoscopy, cat scan of my abdomen, ultra sounds of my abdomen and gallblader, changed my diraetic to lasix (since the Maxzide stopped working after 28 yeas).  I need help...

I would call the specialist and tell them your having side effects and ask them what to do?

You might call a pharmacist as well and tell them what is going on with the side effects.

were you actually diagnosed by a doctor with IBS?

shawn12 is right, call your specialist and go see them right away. As with all medicines, your doctor is not all knowing, just more informed. You are the best judge about the medicine and you just said it You cant stand this.

Did your doctor warn you about taking this medicine?

Amitiza is strong medicine to help the body keep the colon from becoming impacted. It is to be taken WITH food. I take mine 20 minutes after I have eaten and the nausea is not as great.
I don't take it all the time. Only when I need to.

You may be allergic to Amitiza and may have to take something else. Hopefully, you will find the right diet and type of medication to help your particular chemical makeup.
