Good Morning!  I, too, am aggravated by IBS--usually occuring during times of stress.  This "episode" has been off and on for a few months!  I got stressed out when I realized I have to give my cat insulin shots for diabetes twice a day.  I've gotten used to it but my stomach hasn't.  It seems that once I have IBS, I start worrying about it and, of course, that encourages it for me.

I am starting to take probiotics and am now on Phillips Colon Health.  Has anyone found a particular probiotic that has done well for them?  I have a friend that swears by Swanson probiotics, but these need to be ordered.  I've read that certain "good" bacteria need to be present in the probiotic used.

I am trying to convince my mind to stop worrying about it.  Not easy, I guess...  Glad this forum exists!

I don't take seperate probiotics but they are part of a multivitamin that I take and I find that very useful.

While I don't have the IBS actual dx but experience symptoms very similar to IBS (existing w/o my lower colon, removed due to cancer), I've noticed a marked improvement in my symptoms, this probiotic seems to equalize everything inside for me, and quiet my gut from the rumbling I sometimes get.

Renew Life, Ultimate Flora, Critical Colon, 80 Billion Count. Purchased at a local health food store, found in the chilled section near flaxseed oils and yogurt.

I read on the UC forum here that it's best to take this probiotic on a completely empty stomach at bedtime. That seems to work for my schedule.

I have had good results with Nature's Way- Primadolphilus Reuteri. With 70% of immune system in the gut, I think everyone should be on a good probiotic, IBS or not.

Having tried many remedies for my IBS, all to no avail, I found significant benefit from an excellent probiotic called Symprove. It's in the form of a drink which you take once a day on an empty stomach. It contains 4 types of live, activated probiotic. The main thing is, though, that it works and is definitely worth a try. I get it from their website http://www.symprove.com/
