Hey all...

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on this? I find it really hard to 'date' with my ibs, if we go out for a meal I always have to rush to the toilet after, and can sometimes spend quite a while in there, which is obviously quite embarrassing, I always end up saying 'there was a queue' or 'someone phoned me'.
It's not really something I'm comfortable telling people on a first date, infact even my ex who I was with 7 months did not actually know I had ibs, as I tried to keep it hidden, making excuses all the time!

Maybe it would be good to meet someone with similar problems to myself, so it would be less embarrassing as they would know what I was going through too....

Anyone got any suggestions?

Ns,
hi. after being married for 10 yrs I am back in DateLand, and I have been wondering myself how to handle my IBS issue. I don't mind being frank about it with most female friends...but telling a guy you just met why you run to the ladies and stay in there 20 min is really awkward. its just embarassing. Not to mention the gas & bloating that goes along with the attacks, and I also tend to get the sweats and feel a lil faint. Aren't I just a dream date?

So, do you be upfront and honest and say you have a "stomach problem" or a "digestive disorder"? Just say "something didn't agree with me"? Gross em out with the details? or skirt the issue and hope he doesn't leave you while you're in the potty?

Sometimes I feel like I need to carry a copy of my medial records on a first date, and hand em over, and say something like "Do you really want to deal with this?" :(

I was diagnosed with IBS about 7 years ago for severe bloating, gas and frequent bathroom visits.. I was scoped and everything looked fine. No real explanation other than calling it IBS. I dealt with it for years.. Some meds at times to help, but it didnt do much. about a year ago, i was recently diagnosed with severely high triglycerides and had to regulate my diet accordingly.
Basically, i had to limit my carbs to only about 20% of what i ate.. NO SUGARS.. NO FRUITS, Very little starches.
I ate meat and cold vegetables.. I even ate cheese. To my surprise, my IBS symptoms went away. No more bloating, Gas reduced 90%, I understand now that all the sugar in my gut in combination to high bacteria levels (because of it ) contributed to the IBS symptoms. If you feel that your willing to try a new diet to help your symptoms.. PLEASE TRY IT! The secondary benefit is i lost 30 lbs in 4 months and kept it off. WOO HOO!!

Odd because I just went on a first date tonight. I had my stomach do the madman's limbo. After using the bathroom twice, I explained to her about my stomach condition. She understood that I had to leave the date early and she scheduled a second date right away. She was completely understanding and explained her issues. We got along great and I'm happy she understood.
