No there doesn't seem to be a cure for IBS. The diagnosis for IBS can be very broad, some experience dumping episodes, diarrhea while others experience severe and debilitating constipation. And varying degrees in between.
The ulcerative colitis forum here is very active and while many with IBS do not have UC, I've been able to "borrow" advice or suggestions from that forum. Same goes for the ostomies forum here and probably the chron's one too.
And for the record, I don't have the IBS diagnosis but rather found myself with severe IBS like symptoms due to a resection of my sigmoid and a good chunk of my colon above that point. I now have multiple bm's per day and share many IBS symptoms.
Finally, after reading and reading so many health forums, seeing 3 GI specialists, etc. I've determined this - IBS is also individualistic, what works for one of us, may not work for the next person afflicted with this disease. It's really a trial and error kind of thing but I do highly recommend the food journal - great idea. Remember to record every single detail, down to beverages you consume to details such as being under stress or sick that day. All of these details will hopefully paint a clear or clearer picture for you of what to eat in the future and what to avoid like the plague.
