You pain sounds nothing like that related to IBS. I have had kidney stones and I can tell you they hurt and hurt BAD when passing. Passing a kidney stone is worse than giving birth naturally without drugs. I've done both!
Have you seen a kidney specialist? What type of kidney stones do you have? Are they treating the underlying process causing the formation of stones? As a nursing student I am surprised that you are not getting better help with this problem.
Getting relief from the massage could mean a couple things: it is a muscle/skelton type problem; the massage dislodged or moved the stone to another location.
I am not a doctor but I am guessing this is more related to the stones than IBS. However, to rule out other digestive diseases and make a diagnosis of IBS, one would need a colonoscopy. An IBS diagnosis is one of eliminating all other possible causes of the abdominal pain.
I'm sorry to not be able to offer more advice. Welocme to Healing Well!
