hiya all
i am interested to know if anyone feels the same as me before a BM. my heart begins to race and i feel light headed. i get a lump in my throat and the "juices" as if i am going to be sick. i get hot flushes and feel irritable and panicky. this continues until i go to the toilet then it subsides. this is worse when i only need to pass the mucus i get (mentioned in my tale of woe). loads of hot, thick mucus, sometimes clear, sometimes green in color. i do suffer from depression and panic attacks in general but these are different somehow.

I suffer from panic attacks also however I still haven't determined if these are related. Do you usually get these panic attacks right before a BM when you are out or when you are home also? When I was IBS-D, I would get them mostly when I was out in public. I would panic that there would not be a bathroom or that I wouldn't make it in time. I also have panic attacks in other situations as well so that is why I'm not sure if there is a relation with the two.

I too panic but only in public situations. The only other time I get those sensations or feelings is when I have a very bad IBS attack. Then I am sweating, heart racing, vomitting and of course hiiting the toilet. Need to know when you feel this way the most???????

i tend to get the panic attacks right before a bm. i dont consider them being because i am worried about making the bathroom on time as the prolapse i have prevents me from evacuating anyway, therefore i get these feelings any time any where. i can def associate them with a bm tho as when i have been the symptoms subside.

I too get light headed, racing/pounding heart, and panic just prior to a BM, not all the time. If I catch myself, take a deep breath, and realize it is just another BM, I generally calm down.

I am new here, looking for answers to this condition that takes over at the worst times. I too get mad panic attacks b4 a bm. All of a sudden I get so dizzy and lightheaded I feel like I can't stand up, then I have to go immediatly. It's definitely not related to ebing in public, because it hapens at home on the weekends when I can easily stay home. I think stress really amplifies this. Does anyne else have this particular case, and if so, what have you done t help?

It almost sounds like you have a sudden release of some hormone or something, which would cause all those feelings, plus the diarrhea.  Then again, maybe it's the rapid fluid shift that can occur with the sudden, intense diarrhea.  It might even drop your BP, which would make you feel dizzy, nauseous and panic-y.

yeah i can relate to this too i used to get panick attacks alot and then suddenly need to rush to the loo but after going on anti depressents especially for panick attacks it went away. Now im off the anti depressents i get it occasionally when im in a public place and im with friends, or exams or interviews that type of thing. But im usually ok if im on my own for soem reason. I think its because if im on my own i can just go to the loo whenever i want and i dont have to explain myself to anyone else or feel silly.

THANK GOD I found this forum...particularly this entry about panic attacks before a BM. If I have too much caffeine this will most definitely happen to me. All of a sudden, I start to feel hot and sick all over...at first I don't know if I'm going to vomit or have D. My heart pounds and races (I've had anxiety attacks in the past, but this was NOT one....I know the difference). I could be completely calm one moment, and the next have this happen. The only relief is a BM. I feel like a total freak.

My question is this: has anyone with similar symptoms found relief? I have BMs regularly every day, I tend to stay away from wheat/gluten, alcohol, coffee, sweets. What the heck more could I do?? I also eat yogurt or Activia each day for the probiotics and I do yoga, take walks, meditate, and I modified my work life so I don't stress as much.

I tend to sit a lot (I work infront of a computer all day). Maybe that's it. I dunno. I'm stumped. I'm curious to see what helps you.

Thanks for listening!

Thank you!  I am so glad I found this!  I just had this happen to me and was not sure what was going on.  I woke up and felt really weird, legs felt funny, a little light headed.  I sat down and had this sudden feeling of needing a BM.  Afterward, I had a full on panic attack (shaking, racing heart, etc.) not knowing what was happening.  I walked around a little but still felt aweful.  I got to this site and after reading this, I feel so much better just knowing people go through the same thing.  Thanks again!

Panic attacks just seem to be part of my 'normal life' espcially when i leave the safe zone of my home getting anywhere is just a nightmare and no matter how much deep breathing or telling myself im ok ill be ok does the stress go away.

i often think whats the worst that can happen But that doesnt seem to do any good seems strange to say but thank god im not the ONLY one

has anyone told their doctor and had any good results
i think the time has come for me to be brave

You are not alone, i have the same promblems with my IBS try relaxation tapes evey day to help with your stress. i would get a panic attack because of the pain and not knowing what was happening. the dr. keeps giving me pills that help for a week and then i would come back. i would take 3 trips a month to the hosptial and they would never find anything wrong. my shrink and back dr. helped the most. i take only barrly tablet now and listen to my tapes and i have a new life.

hi all,

I am new to the blog, I get several panic attacks lasting 10-15 minutes in the evenings, day time I am fine. I also note the my attacks are not connected to going to toilet.

I had a panic attack out of the blue one late night, perspiration, flush, eyes unable to focus, dizzy feeling, did not know what today. since it was late night no doctors were available, I went to a hospital and the resident MRO check and found BP and pulse OK. I really got scared. Stomach problems started next day, and whenever I ate anything I used to get these attacks. I could just eat two spoons of rice before I felt full and uncomfortable. I was first diagnosed and treated for amebiosis, then colitis before a third doctor said it was IBS.  By then one month of suffering had passed and I was skinny and a mental wreck. I also took some anti-depressant and it took me 6 months to get back on track.

That was 4 years ago. The same symptoms have started now again. I was given a strong mebeverine (anti spasmodic) which did not suit me and felt giddy, breathless and perspired one full day thinking I will die. I stopped it and took a lower strength tab, but it still gives me problems.

Would somebody with similar problems communicate.

wow i did not know that happened with ibs, i have ibd which i thought that mucus only happened with ibd. so i thought i would share this with you guys as well. i havent had the panic attacts since going raw. im not perfect and still have alot of issues which i need to deal with in my self, like deppression and the feeling im too skinny, which i get alot of deppresion from. but the heart racing and everything has gone.

i used to get panic attacts and then after i had a bm they would dissapear. i now beleive that it just could have been my body saying there was somthing wrong.
