I know that feeling only too well :( I was just in the ER the other day but luckily the CT scan show no inflammation or abscesses. Just had intense pain and major nausea. I have IBS, Diverticular disease AND Ulcerative colits - such a wonderful combo....not!
Do you take fiber supplements? After your course of soft foods and antibiotics - once the diverticulitis settles, perhaps increase your fiber intake if you aren't already doing so? Btw, my constipation mainly comes from my diverticular disease and not my IBS (which is mostly D). I find that increasing my fiber helps tremendously.
Also, follow the divertculosis diet (after you're healed) - high fiber, avoid nuts, seeds, spicy foods, corn, celery - pretty much anything that is hard to digest. Be especially watchful for small seeds found in tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, cantelope, and pickles. My downfall a couple days ago is that I wasn't thinking and had some pickles.
I'm still recovering right now but for the most part, things are getting back to "normal" for me.
