I couldn't tolerate almond milk. It gave me bad cramps and oddly enough caused constipation. I now only drink organic 1% milk and so far so good.

Thank God I found this site. I was thinking it was the almond milk making me cramp real bad and have diaherra. I make mine at home just nuts and water, so anyone thinking it's the additives in store bought, no it's not. Make my own goat milk yogurt. Am going to switch to goat milk in my shakes. Know it will make a difference.

My son (will be 16 at the end of the month) has been suffering with ibs symptoms and bladder problems since the end of September. He is seeing a second gastro doctor as the first one thought it was all in my son's head and pushed him off to a urologist. Anyway...his poops tend to get softer (and sometimes yellow)...wondering if it is because of almond milk? Poor kid...when his poop is soft or is diarrhea-like, his bladder gets worse.

Try making homemade almond milk. It will not have the additives that are making you sick. The most complicated step to making almond milk is finding and buying cheese cloth...otherwise it's as simple as making a smoothie. I think it's the thickening agent, carrageenan, and possibly the sweetener that is causing the problem. Fit for life has a nice recipe as well as the following link: ohsheglows.com. I'm going to try it for my husband. I hate to see him give up yet another food especially if making it homemade helps. I'm sure whole foods has a carrageenan free product...

Just wanted to add my 2¢ worth! I actually found this awesome website because I Googled a query about why when I drink my Almond Milk many times it sets my stomach off into a terribly loud and annoying bout of Gurgling!!!! That led me directly to this thread which I felt blessed to find....as I'm sitting here with a horrible case of Gurgles as we speak☹ this has begun happening more and more frequently when I drink the Almond Breeze Vanilla Almond Milk!!! I have noticed that it's much worse and more noticeable when I haven't eaten a full meal first!
I...as many of you, was not making the connection since it didn't always happen and hadn't been annoying enough in the past to make me think about it! But...I do have IBS, spastic colitis among other health issues like Fibromyalgia, Post Polio Syndrome ( I am 65 yrs young) Chronic Fatigue and Pain etc!
So now I know and......I will switch to my other favorite milk substitute all the time from now on! That would be Good Karma Flax Milk I am partial to vanilla flavor but it comes in several different types and is available through most health food stores as well as Sprouts (out here on the West Coast) and Whole Foods!
Thanks for all your great posts and shares hope I have helped others as well!💟

I just wanted to add that I suspect that Almond Milk is the source of my diarrhea as well. I am using the Silk brand, which doesn't seem to contain carrageenan, which some have listed as a culprit. You can look up the ingredients on line. I am happy to see this thread, because I have had recurrent diarrhea, which was hard to diagnose because it evidently followed on the heels of a stomach virus. Hallelujah! Anyway, not all almond milk is made the same; some people may be allergic to additives, some to the almonds themselves. Try eating a handful of almonds and see if you have the same effects. Then find a lovely recipe and make your own if that isn't the problem.

Hi Gretchen. U may want to try probiotics that has solved most of my issues. I take Kal 4 brand 4 capsules a day u can get it at the health food store or Amazon. Amazon is by far cheaper. U have to start slow work ur way up to four to six capsule a day on an empty stomach. I posted another post u may like to read it. Also it may be the lecithin in the almond milk. U can look it up. But making ur own would b ideal I haven't gotten there yet

I drink 1/2 cup of almond milk daily with coffee; doesn't seem to cause problems.

BUT.....

I make it myself from fresh almonds. Most almost milk in the store has additives I do not trust.

E.g. carrageenan is actually used experimentally to induce bowel inflammation in lab mice.

Homemade almond milk quickly separates into three layers and has to be stirred vigorously before use. I think store bought almond milk usually has emulsifiers to prevent separation. But there is evidence that emulsifiers can also cause gut inflammation.

A good friend of ours in Ohio recently shared a dramatic improvement in his IBS. I pass it along in here just in case it might helps someone else. For full disclosure, he was using one of our products for something else but it effected (positively, and unexpectedly) his IBS so he let us know. I had no idea so many people suffered from this (he never told me about his condition due to embarrassment). If anyone else wants to try it, we will offer some free product because we would REALLY like to hear about more results, regardless of positive or negative. Thanks. The link to his case study (reviewed by the top G.I. doc at Vanderbilt) is available to read at this link and the patient said he's willing to talk to anyone else who is suffering like he did...please contact us if you want to reach out to him to ask questions directly to him about his history and experiences.

Reading through the problems with almond milk causing stomach problems. Just wondering if any of you have tried making your own almond milk and if so, does it still cause problems. I make mine, easy process. I do only make 2 cups at a time so it doesn't have time to go bad. No additives , just almonds and water. If you want to try it, just google it.

I used to drink Kroger Almond milk and would get diarrhea. Then I switched to Almond Breeze. It's more expensive but it doesn't give me diarrhea. I think it doesn't have some of the additives that the cheaper brand had......like carrageenan. You might keep your eye on the additives and figure out what might be causing the problem and look for a brand that doesn't have those.

Then again.........who knows. I suffered with diarrhea for years, but now it's constipation. Now I have to take things like mag citrate to loosen me up. It's a crap shoot...........(hahaha pardon the pun!)

I have IBS and currently found this Ice cream made from almond milk since I'm am also lactose intolerance and well I tried it today and worst choice ever.. My stomach hurts and I've been to the restroom 3x already. I didn't know almond milk made my stomach worst, and that is that I switched to almond milk months ago but hardly drink it. Now I know why...
