Hi All,

New here, I'm posting regarding my 18yr old son.  He has had diarrhea for 2 months now and his PCP has referred him to a gastroenterologist.  His appt is not until April 15 (the earliest I could get him in).  His symptoms other than diarrhea are foul smelling gas/diarrhea.  He is living in another state so all this is what I can extract from him over the phone.  You know it's bad when he is willing to discuss his bowel habits with his Mom.  He hasn't had any fevers, abdominal pain.  His stool culture was neg. (his PCP did ordered that).  He is drinking alcohol and chewing/smoking tobacco along with smoking pot (I know that is not helping his situation).  When he was younger he used to get diarrhea when we went out to eat each and sometimes at home, nothing I could pin point causing it though.  I mentioned this to his PCP each time he went in for a checkup.  His PCP thought it was nothing out of the normal, I never thought it was normal, but what do I know?  Any ideas of what this could be, does it sound like IBS?  Someone I was talking to mentioned Crohn's disease.  Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks, KO

We would only be guessing what it could be because his symptoms can be from anything. His alcohol drinking, food intolerances, possible IBS etc. There can be so many reasons so its best to wait until he sees the GI.

IBS does have those symptoms, I have IBS and found Digestive Enzyme supplements have helped me. But everyone is different , what works for one may not work for another.

Hi gvgurl13,

What enzymes do you take and at what doses?  I will have him try them before his appt in April, doing something is better than doing nothing at this point.

Thanks, KO

I am currently using a digestive enzyme, brand name Natures Bounty- Digest-13, Found it at my local Walgreens. It has relly helped me. If you can't find it I'm sure other brands will do as long as they cover all the enzymes you might need .........Hope it helps you.
