about a month ago I had a very painful gall bladder attack. First time for me. I had no idea what it was, so I went to the ER. The ultrasound and x-rays showed a little pouch full of rocks. The symptoms I had were classic gall bladder from what I've learned since. So I'm waiting for my appointment with a GI doc to talk about getting it out. Meanwhile, I've had only a couple minor attacks, which were less painful and lasted maybe a half hour each. I already was eating a pretty healthy diet, so maybe that's helped. So far I'm co-existing with my pet rocks.

My question has to do with gas... in particular, these "fire farts" that I've been dealing with for quite awhile. Actually for months. They are hot and smelly beyond belief  skull   I'm having problems finding information on that. Has anyone of you reading this, who has had gall bladder issues, or maybe IBS issues, dealt with this problem? Is it something that could be handled through digestive aid supplements? I guess I'll be asking the doctor about that in a few weeks when I see him.

Thanks for any insight on this!

I did not have gallstones, so cannot address your question directly. I just wanted to wish you well as you wait for your surgery. My suggestion would be to eat as non=fat as you can and be aware certain foods can trigger an attack, for me that was coffee, tomato based foods, cigarette smoking, raw lettuce salads even with no dressing, red meat, orange and citrus fruits. I was never aware of having gastro intestinal problems such as flatulance or diarrhea or the likes. I did however, have belching and bloating prior to the excruciating pains from my non-functioning gallbladder contracting. Best of luck to you, please let us know how you are doing.

Wishing you luck with your surgery I have had mine out and had a lot of stones. I however, did not have issues with gas, thank goodness. I suffer from IBS, and do not get gas.

Doctor thought after I had the gallbladder out that it would help with my IBS, and sadly it did not.

Sorry TMI. I never had my gallbladder looked at and have questioned many times if it was messed up. But I too get those really hot farts that smell really bad a lot. I thought it was just me but it doesn't feel normal at all. I wish I knew what caused it. I can't stand the smell and its so embarrassing.

I did run across some suggestions for probiotic supplements, actually in going through this forum. So I bought a bottle of that today. I'm also gonna try eating more yogurt. There was also a suggestion for papaya. I haven't done that yet, but I'll keep it in mind.

Yea this gas is really a problem if I'm around people, so hopefully the probiotics will work. I'll update in a couple weeks and let you all know!

Thanks to those who responded! :-)

I take probiotic regularly. It doesn't help the gas issue at all. At first I thought it was what was causing it. So I stopped taking them but still had the problem. I first tried some generic stuff from Walmart, then I got the Phillips pills, then I went to the health food store and bought some called Theralac which was specifically for the colon, then I bought another bottle by the same brand which also had digestive enzymes. No help and those were expensive. Around $45 a bottle. So almost $100 a month on probiotics and still bad gas. So now I just got something from Walgreens. Flor something, I dunno. I told the GI doc about it but he never responded. I waited so long to see him and had so many questions and I just got blown off like another face. It was so depressing.

I hope they help you. I can't find any relief. I've even tried elimination diet, plus all the gas pills out there. I've seriously passed gas 50 times this last couple hours. It's sad when a 2 yr old says it stinks :-(
