Over the last six months I've started to get digestive problems which are really starting to disrupt my life. I've done some research online about
my symptoms and everything is pointing to IBS, but all the articles say something different about
IBS and I'm confused as to what it actually is. I'm trying to get a doctor's appointment but it's really hard where I live, and because I'm seventeen the doctors don't really take me seriously - they just assume I'm healthy because I'm young. I'm still going to try and get some answers from my doctors, but I think there could be some people on here who could maybe help me or advise me a little bit seen as a lot of many have been wrongly diagnosed with IBS and probably know more than the doctors after their experiences. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
I started to notice that something was quite right in January. It started with my stomach making the strangest noises during lessons, which was weird for me seen as my stomach never used to make noises - it didn't even used to rumble when I was hungry. I was also starting to feel incredibly sick after eating a meal at times even if I was really hungry before I started the meal, I sometimes couldn't even finish it because I felt so sick and my stomach started to hurt. My parents put it down to stress at this point.
All that continued to around March time, while it was embarrassing and inconvenient, I didn't really think it was worth going to the doctors because my stomach was making weird noises. I ended up catching a stomach bug in March and threw up for the first time in eight years which was really weird for me. I know this sounds weird but I've always had a 'strong' stomach and even when I've had stomach bugs in the past, I've never thrown up even though everyone else has. I was due to go abroad the next week so decided to go to the doctors to make sure I'd be alright to go - I told her about
the stomach aches I'd been having over the last few months, but she didn't really say anything about
them. Just told me I had a stomach bug at that time.
I first noticed blood in my stools when I was abroad, staying with a non-English speaking family for a week. This was pretty terrifying and I've still been too scared to tell anyone about
it. I've since found blood in my stools twice since then, it wasn't exactly in my stools however, more like I was just randomly passing mucus with blood in or just pure blood - sorry if that's too much information!
It's now been seven months since it's all started and it just seems to be getting worse. I've had reoccurring stomach ache and my stools have gradually become looser to the point it's just normal for me. The last week has probably been the worst. I'll wake him the morning and have a very normal bowel movement. I'll then start getting ready for the day and start to get really bad stomach cramps. I'll go to the toilet to try and relieve the stomach cramps and end up having a very loose bowel movement. I'll try and get ready as normal and I'll have the stomach cramps again, and I'll have yet another loose bowel movement. It usually stops at 11am after I've had two/three loose bowel movements and I'm fine for the rest of the day - but by the point I've missed my chance to do anything productive with my day! The last three days, however, I've had stomach ache the whole day - the kind you get when you know you've got a stomach bug, but I don't think I have one. I was also at this very important event and was in this small crowded room. All of a sudden I thought I was going to be sick, I had to leave the room and I went really dizzy and nearly fainted for the first time in my life, and I ended up having to leave the event and then ended up with awful stomach ache for the rest of the day. Not only did I miss the event, but I was really embarrassed.
I don't really know what's wrong with me. There doesn't seem to be any foods that trigger the stomach ache or diarrhea. I very rarely eat fast food, but when I do I have no problems whatsoever which is strange considering how greasy it is and how you don't actually know what's in it. I don't really drink fizzy drinks but when I do I don't get any excess flatulence. All I had the other day was a slice of plain toast and my stomach was killing. I have so many different types of stomach ache. Sometimes it's a burning pain in my actual stomach, sometimes it's cramping in my lower abdomen and sometimes it's just general pain all over. I don't know whether it's the fact that I was on antibiotics two weeks ago which has made me like this, this week, but I've started taking some probiotics anyway. I've had tonsillitis twice in the last four months, as well as the flu twice so maybe I've just become unlucky with illnesses.
I'm concerned because I've randomly lost some weight, have random stomach aches, am passing blood, have looser stools and because it seems to be affecting my day to day life. I don't know if people will think I'm being paranoid, but any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I also forgot to mention that I suddenly get really hungry very quickly. I'll realise I'm hungry, then ten minutes later I'll have really painful hunger pains and go really light headed. I don't know if that's related or whatever.
