10 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. I was checked for seliac (sp?) and other types of problems, all negative. I had a colonoscopy and then given Effexor XR. I took the med for a while and it worked ok. I then gained 10lbs, and stopped taking the medicine (female, weight matters). Over the years I have had attacks on and off. I usely have mid stomach pain and then I can feel it moving down my decsending colon and finally after a lot of pain, I have a constipation BM. Then it turns to diarrhea and I am left exhausted, freezing and weak. Some of them have lasted three hours or more. Over time I learned at the first sign I would down 800mg ibuprophen, and this seemed to work. Then I learned to give myself an enema, and although painfull the attack would not last that long. So my attacks slowed down and then recently started up more frequently. I have gone to a new GI doc. She first tried me on Amitiza(sp?) that just made my upper stomach hurt. Then she tryed Lysti(SP?) it did not work, again stomache and nothing. During the first three days I took the medication in the evening and I had terrible diarreha then after that NOTHING.
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid and take synthyroid 1mcg.
Now she wants to do an ANORECTAL MANOMETRY. I am not sure what this will do. I just want to go to the bathroom without pain, and more than once every two weeks or so.
I work full time have two young kids and needed to be a healthy mom for them. I am losing hope.
