I don't think it did me any good, either. At least it didn't stop my diarrhea. It may have helped boost my immune system, but it's hard to see that kind of result. But everyone definitely needs to take something like it if they have to go on antibiotics; can't afford to mess up the intestinal tract any more than it already is.

I am convinced that there are about 12 different causes of IBS--maybe more. Bacterial imbalance is one of the possibilities. Just because it didn't help me or Pepper doesn't mean that it won't cure you. Our problems are just not caused by bacteria, apparently. Although right now I'm taking something silimilar to it that was recommended by my G.I.'s nurse--Culturelle--because I've started to have stinky BMs, and that's supposed to be a sign of bad bacteria. Oh, did I mention that of those 12 different causes, some can be happening at the same time?

I'm on D.A. and I like it. It has helped me with gas and has helped some with regularity. I notice that when I forget to take it I feel sort of crappy the next day... then I double up. When you start taking it remember to take 2 the 1st 2 days and then 1 after that (unless your have severe IBS, then take 2 daily). I also take acidophillus and Beano so they really help too.

Hi sports,
When I started taking D.A. I did some research on the net first. On the D.A. website it says to take 2 for the 1st 2 days for "best results." Now I take 1 a day unless I'm feeling extra crappy, then I'll take 2. Also, I called the hotline and the woman told me to try and take the D.A. at the same time everyday (it helps to keep a schedule when taking pills). She also said it didn't matter whether you took it on an empty or full stomach. FYI... I have been on D.A. for a few months and I think I'll stay on for many more (I bought a jumbo pack on the internet).
I have had IBS for almost 10 years... I am 26 (diagnosed w/25) but have had symptoms since 17 - a senior in high school. I have both IBS-D & C. I take D.A., Zelnorm, probiotics, prevacid (as needed for heartburn), Beano (as needed), Gas-X (as needed) and a womens daily vitamin.... I'm also on the pill.... so I take quite a bit of pills daily. Oh ya, once in a blue moon I'll pop ½ a dose of Immodium.
I think I covered everything, but let me know if I missed anything.

Are you currently on anything for IBS?

I'm sorry to say, but I have been taking it for almost 2 months, every single day, and it hasn't helped me at all!!  I'm IBS-D and still have the same problems today, that I had before I started taking it.

Michelle, have you noticed it help with gas at all? Do you take 1 or 2 pills? If you're only taking 1 a day then maybe you could try taking 2. Just a suggestion.... (although it may not work for everyone)

yeah

hey everyone!  sorry i havent been around lately but we have been dealing with the aftermath of hurricane katrina.  we werent directly in the path, being from alabama, but i have been helping out.

i took digestive advantage for a while and it helped me a great deal but after a while it stopped working no matter how many i took.  finally, i started taking calcium and i have been feeling 100% better.  the only time i feel like crap i during that "time" of the month which is understandable.  maybe you should start taking calcium, it is especially good to take if you have had your gall bladder out.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY TAKING ANYTHING FOR IBS. I WAS GIVEN LEVSIN FROM THE GASTROENTEROLOGIST. WHEN I FELT AN ATTACK COMING, I AM SUPPOSED TO TAKE IT RIGHT AWAY BUT I DID NOT FEEL MUCH RELIEF. MY GP SAID HE WAS AFRAID TO PUT ME ON ANYTHING BECAUSE SOME OF THE MEDS CAN CAUSE SIDE EFFECTS WHICH MIGHT MAKE MY IBS WORSE. I AM TAKING ZOLOFT AND ACIPHEX WHICH I FEEL IS HELPING SOME. I AM ON MY THIRD DAY OF DA. THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT I REALLY HAVE IS ALL THE GAS IN MY STOMACH IN THE MORNING. SOMEONE SAID NOT TO TAKE CA IF YOU ARE IBS-D AND IBS-C. THANKS!

Hey all,
I just wanted to tell you that I switched from D.A. chewables to the pills... the pills seem to work better. So much so that I actually notice a difference. I am regular now. I have been going to the bathroom once, sometimes twice, a day. They are pretty normal BMs too. (Aside from my occasional attacks - but I can't expect to be cured.) Maybe it is a coincidence but I doubt it since I haven't been "regular" since I was a young tot.
Just thought I'd share.

I have to admit, I stopped taking it inadvertently. Just thought of it since you bumped this, it has been in the back of my cabinet. I need to pull it out and start taking it again, I did notice improvements while taking it. Once I'm done with these chewables sample pack, I will look for the pills instead. Thanks Lil (for reminding me :)

A found a 90 day supply on the net for pretty cheap, compared to most drug stores anyway (sometimes you can find free shipping too).
Just like any other med, the key is consistency. Hopefully you can get a routine down and remember to take it everyday. Good luck!
