Hi all. I'm  going to swallow the camera pill next week.  Has anybody else done this?  Please share your experience.

With the exception of Ontario, here in Canada you have to pay for this out of your pocket as the government hasn't approved it yet.  You southerners are so ahead of us...lol  I'm a little nervous about the risk of obstructing but gotta do it to put my mind at rest once and for all.

Hope everyone is well.

Good luck softy. Let us know how it comes out. Ok, sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm curious, how much does it cost in Canada? (you can tell me in canadian dollars and I'll figure it out)

Good luck and Be well!!! :)

Hi softy,  I came across a couple of sites that had good references.  I'm sorry that I don't have the experience but I have to say that it is amazing technology.  :-)

Good luck Softy!  I had the camera pill a few months ago.  Make sure to follow a clear liquid diet the day before; I ended up with "residual vegetable matter" that obscured a few portions of my intestine and you want to be as squeaky clean as possible!  It's the size of a vitamin pill so the risk of obstruction is extremely low, especially if you've already had a small bowel series showing no abnormalities.  What other tests have you had done so far?f

You swallow the pill as it's blinking (it's very bizarre) and you end up wearing this big vest-like thing that makes you look like the Unibomber so I wouldn't recommend going to work unless you want to answer endless questions all day.  You can eat four hours after slurping it down and will probably poop it out within a couple of days (same day if you're a "fast runner" like me!).

Super easy test...you'll be good to go!  I hope it goes well for you.  Let us know if they find anything!

Hey Des. Thanks for the website links...very informative. My GI told me it will be $1500 and the clinic told me it will be $1000. so ?? I'll find out when I pay I guess...only wish they took airmiles...lol

Hi Jenny. I've been through all the tests and since I'm paying out of my pocket the dr. really doesn't care one way or the other if I get this test so I asked for it.

Hi Sarita. Hope you're doing somewhat better. Any better!!! I have to drink two bottle of mag-citrate (blech!!)) the night before for a clean out as well as following a clear diet. Hate that foul stuff. I have had EVERY other test done in search of crohn's or anything and this will be my last. I haven't had a sbft or colonoscopy for a year but still hope it doesn't get stuck. There's a recent poster on the crohn's board that swallowed it on Aug.14 and it's still in there...yikes!

You might have gotten different amounts because the clinic has their charge and the doctor has a seperate charge. At least for a colonoscopy it is this way (one for the clinic, one for the GI, and one for the anesthiologist). Thanks for the info, I wanted to compare what it costs out there versus in the US so in case I every wanted it done and its cheaper there, I could fly out there. :)
