In the past 15 years I tried SCD twice (actually had to re-buy the book the second time around haha) and many other diets. SCD was not successful for me because as I found out through food journal there are many foods SCD says are legal that my gut just cannot handle: yogurt, fruit, fruit juices, almond meal and more.
I've tried and failed all the "name" diets but nothing exactly matched up. Diet modification however has been the reason I've gotten so much better (remission from UC but still IBS symptoms).
Here's what I avoid: high fiber food, wheat/gluten/grains, most dairy, certain veggies like tomatoes including ketchup, onions, carageenan, anything ending with -ol (sugar alcohols), raisins and dried fruit, red wine, citrus, seafood, caffeine, chocolate. There are more but that's off the top of my head.
So what do I eat? Meat and cooked veggies like green beans, spinach and carrots, coconut milk replaces dairy but butter and hard cheese are OK, some of the gluten-free flours are good for baking, my gut LOVES potatoes of all kinds, coconut and olive oil are great. I love using herbs for flavor like ginger, basil, oregano, red pepper, etc. Although I don't eat rice (IBS) one slice of Udi's gluten-free bread a day does not cause symptoms. White wine and clear alcohol cause no problems (one drink) but it's hard to find an gut-friendly mixer so I add seltzer.
I don't feel deprived at all although I usually have to make my own desserts because what's for sale had ingredients I don't want. That keep weight down haha.
In the beginning it was hard to discover which foods caused problems because my gut was upset with everything. Now, by process of elimination I know what will cause problems. So when I eat ice cream I know what will happen a few hours later (or the next day). Caffeine is an immediate reaction but sometimes my brain talks me into it anyway.
Good luck with your diet mod.
