I know there are a few different posts on here about
meds and such for controlling, or damping the effects of IBS.
I was just wondering if I might could get a link or something to some information on such meds.
Currently I am on:
Nexium (expensive!!)
Librax (? Supposed to be to help spasms, doesn't seem to do anything I can take note of)
I was just wondering what the other drugs where that seem to help.

Hi mrmagoo,
I have heard some success with Bentyl. I myself like the over-the-counter Digestive Advantage. I also recommend taking probiotics.
I hope you find something that works.

Now is probiotics the name, or the descript
ion? I will have to check out Digestive Advantage.

This is one drug site I use and like a lot... It has a really good section on interactions also.

Thanks. Digestive Advantage is for Lactose correct? I really am not affected by lactose unless I have a heavy dose such as ice cream, I dont like milk so I hardly drink it, and cheese doesn't bother me. Wait, maybe it does and I just never connected the dots. I will have to check into this further.

Mrmagoo, D.A. comes in 2 forms... for IBS and for Lactose.
Probiotics are "good bacteria." The one most of us use is Acidilophus. See if you can get one that has at least 1 billion live cultures.

My G.I.'s Nurse Practitioner swore by a probiotic called "Culturelle" (my spelling may be slightly off). I tried a 5-day supply, but didn't notice anything different. It didn't make me gassy, though, like the acidophilus did. Still probiotics are good for you, even if you don't notice any immediate result. The N.P. said that she took the Culturelle religiously for a week before a trip to Mexico and for a full three weeks while there and she was the only person in her party to not get Montezuma's Revenge at any time.
Yogurt works too if you don't want to take another pill, but you really need to get the more expensive plain organic kind because they have more cultures--I have noticed--than the cheap-o kind that comes in super-sugery single serving cups. Plain yogurt is very tart and not very good in my opinion, but you can always self-sweeten it; I add sugared granola to mine to make it sweeter and crunchy. With the full fat stuff, a little of it goes a long way.
