Welcome! What are your symptoms? IBS can come with constipation, on the other extreme it's diarrhea. Some are on antispasmatic medications, as IBS can cause painful spasms.
Often bowel disorders are diagnosed with a combination of tests by a gastroenterologist. Did a family doctor say: oh it's probably just IBS and then not refer you to a specialist? IBS is a diagnosis by eliminating other possible causes for your symptoms, not a guess. Usually, a stool test is done to rule out pathogenic causes (a bacterial or fungal overgrowth like c-difficile), otherwise symptoms could be caused by an infection. A colonoscopy with biopsies is often done to visualize what's going on. UC, Crohn's and infections have distinct appearances both visually and under the microscope.
