IBS or something else

For about 6 months my doctor thought i had ibs and i took a whole bunch of different meds. After the D started to wake me up in the middle of the night i found a new Gi who ended up diagnosing me with Ulcerative colitis. After fighting this for 4 months i am now having to resort to Remicade treatments.

Make sure you have a good Gi sig scope you and test the biopsies before you settle for an ibs diagnosis. They always tend to dismiss this and try and tell you its in your head...but we know otherwise

I agree 100%... never settle for a diagnosis if you feel you haven't been evaluated thoroughly.

Hi dmacell, I just found out this year that I have distal UC however I have IBS also. I have had many scopes w/ biopsies in the past few years but they only discovered it this year so I know I have both. They took biopsies this last time and they were inconclusive but I had all the visible markings of UC (granularity/inflammation). My doctor is one that believes you can have both which makes sense to me because I have had IBS for 16 years. (I want to make sure everyone understands though that doesn't mean that IBS turns into IBD, it doesn't) I just am unfortunate I guess to have both. I haven't had a real flare yet so all of my symptoms are IBS related. I am not looking forward to my first flare :(

I can see a few problems in what you are taking. A multi vitamin can cause you more stomach upset. Vitamin A C E and magnesium will cause you more diarrhea also. If you take predinsome it can ruin your bones and you most likely should be taking calcium and calcium carbonate will help your colon also.
Calcium carbonate can help to firm up the BM also. Email me if you want the info on how to take the calcium.
