I tell you what, I thought it was hard enough to go through the day/hour/minute with IBS-C alone; but now (actually last year) I was told I had a few little internal hemmies, not a big deal says the doc, eat some light foods, yata yata.

Well, here it is over a year later, and I sweat these little buggers are what is causing most of my pain. There has to be some solution to take care of these type things in this type situation, anyone know of one?

Christmas....bah humbug, just another holiday to look like a sick fool in front of a family that already puts up with my missing out on events all year, and gets extremely upset over missing out on Christmas events.

Hi mrmagoo,
If your hemmies are flaring, you should ask your doctor for some suppositories. Hydrocortisone suppositories are used for this. They will bring down the inflammation. Its important though not to use them too much however because they are a cortisteroid. The only other option would be surgery but I don't know if you want to go there or not. Are you getting enough fiber? This should bulk up your stool and make it easier to pass your BM with less stress on your hemmies.

i have had constipation problems for years and nobody can figure out exactly why. i am diabetic, have high blood pressure, osteoporosis and am tapering off valium now. i take alot of meds. i have tried everything, even had a colonoscopy. i am living on senna laxatives now as it is the only thing that works. my dr. told me to keep taking it even though i know this is not a good thing to do. it could be IBS-C, gastroparesis, the pills, who know? i am also extremely bloated. any input

Hi court, welcome to HealingWell!
Are you on calcium for the osteoporosis? If so, that could be your main contribution to constipation. Have you talked to your doctor about this possible connection? Have you tried other alternatives for the constipation, like prune juice, high fiber diet or Zelnorm? (I only mention Zelnorm because it is not as addictive as laxatives.) Do you get plenty of exercise and drink lots of water? Lots of people don't have regular BM's because they don't get enough exercise and/or water.
As for the bloating... have you tried Beano or Gas-X? Other than avoiding gaseous foods, those are the only 2 things I can think of to help with the bloat.
Take care. :-)

i was on calcium supplements but stopped taking them after starting on valium to taper off ativan.  i thought it was either the calcium or the valium.  i still have the problem.  i am also agoraphobic and don't get much exercise.  also i am diabetic.  i have tried everything, drinking alot of water, higher fiber diet, metamucil but my gastro told me to stop the metamucil as he said it "slows everything down"  i am not gassy, just bloated.  i have heard terrible things about zelnorm and besides not being able to afford it as i have no insurance, i am afraid to take it. prune juice has too much sugar for my diabetes so i eat other fruits in moderation.

court

ps i am eating more foods with calcium and taking a multi-vitamin with minerals

I think Metamucil slows things down if you are not getting enough water and/or exercise. Being agoraphobic will rule out walking around the block, but what about a treadmill? Or maybe some sort of exercise tape? Do you have stairs? Sometimes to kick my system into gear I will jog up and down my stairs several times if I don't feel like going out.
Zelnorm affects everyone differently... I love it and so do a couple others here. However, there are others here who can't tolerate it. It is pretty much the luck of the draw when it comes to Zelnorm.
Maybe you are getting enough calcium form the multi-vitamin and you don't need to be eating more foods with calcium. ??? Just a thought. (I am not a doctor, I comment from my own personal experience.)

Hi mrmagoo, I just had hemmie surgery. Not fun! I had internal and external hemmies with some attached together. I have had problems with them for 14 years but had them under control till the IBS monster took over my life. I had the surgery 10 days ago and I am all most back to normal. I think it was worth it but then I had a mess back there, and they stayed flared up for a month before surgery.

Hi Patty,
This is great news, I'm glad you had the surgery and are almost back to normal. Hopefully those suckers won't bother you again.
Take care! :-)
