Today was a horrible day w/ IBS. Ugh! about an hour or so after I ate, I started having horrible tummy/intestinal pains. Next thing I know, my entire lunch comes explosively out of me. Ugh. I walked out of the bathroom, thinking it was over; nope, I ran into the bathroom 3 more times for the same thing. My food went through me that quickly! I had always assumed that this was part of my IBS, but I am thinking more and more that I not only have IBS, but dumping syndrome as well (since the food will sometimes come out of me so quickly). And stupid me forgot to bring my medicine w/ me at lunch today! eyes

My question is though....... is the rapid emptying of my stomach and then the diareha that follows it part of my IBS? Or would you think that was more a sign of also dumping syndrome?

Sometimes when I have "D", the food will come right out of me. Other times, the "D" follows eating hours and hours later.

I have that same problem, except mine is usually limited to one episode of D. It doesnt happen every meal (usually after lunch or dinner if it does) but either during the end of the meal or an hour or so later, I will get horrible rumbling and cramps, gas, and then go have diarrhea! Its like all my food went away, and after the episode I am somewhat hungry again! Mdgirl, does your stomach feel a little weird right before your episode? Mine feels somewhat uncomfortable, then after the episode is better.

Yes, my tummy feels "odd" right before it's going to happen. I can feel when it's coming on, and usually don't have more than 3 min to get to the bathroom. sad   It feels like cramps, strong, horrible contracting pain..... then boom, it comes out of me. Then my food is left in the toilet. And once it's over, my tummy feels fine again.

But mostly when I have "D", it's not any reconizable food, it's just watery stool. (lots and lots of it) So I was wondering if that every once in awhile I have my food literally come out of me, would that be associated w/ my IBS, or would that be more of a gastric emptying issue??? Anyone know?

I have IBS and am on my second specialist.  It all starts anywhere from 1/2 hour up to 3 hours later after a meal.  I eat and then the stomach starts to hurt and then pain starts that I can only compare to the worst Stomach Flu.  Until the regular stool is gone the pain intensifies, until I can go to the bathroom.  Even at this point it isn't over for another 6,7 or 10 trips to the bathroom till nothing is left.  Then the next day or so I feel like I'm totally drained.  I'm taking new medicine and it really seems to help.  I take ASACOL 400MG, 2 tablets-3 times a day and at the same time I take either Fiber Con or Colon Care Fromula from GNC.  1 Fiber Con and the Colon Care from GNC-3 tablets each time I take the ASACOL.  The biggest relief is the next medicine called Dicyclomine 20MG Tablets.  This for me has been a big help and relief when things start, I take one of these and I may have a small bout of Diarreha but really helps with the stomach pain.

I realize this may not help everyone but it has really helped me.  The pain that happenes with this IBS for me is the worst pain felt by me.  If you can imagine some one kicking me where it sounts and having a car parked on your lower back along with the angry growling moving stomach.  nothing but  oining and groining.  Then it is drained and a beat up feeling for the next couple days.

I do not drink Orange Juice and very little milk and sods pop.  Per doctors instructions stay aware from acids.

I hope this helps!

Hi Richy,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
Thank you for sharing your coping strategy. I'm sure it will help give people an idea of what they can ask their doctor's for.
Have you tried taking calcium to help control your D? Many people here swear by it. What about probiotics... do you take them?
Thanks again for sharing, and keep posting.
Take care.

I haven't tried taking the Calcium due too the fact that the medidicines that I am on are really working.  I do take the Fiber Con or the Colon Care Formula from the GNC Store and is also helping me greatly.  The biggest relief I have had is from the pain or spasm medication listed in the first thraed and it stops it right now.

This second specialist I have went to has helped me greatly.
