Hello,

New here, new to everything related really.

So, I’m a 26 year old male, from UK. No previous health conditions and no family history of any bowel issues.

My issues started a month ago, I started noticing a change in my bowels I’d go as soon as I woke up and then again a few times again in morning. My stools also seemed to be flatter most of the time and at theat time I had blood on toilet paper. I immediately went to google and saw that colon cancer was what matched my symptoms. I immediately started to panic and ended up at the GP. Who arranged some blood tests, all of which came back clear! My stools however remained flat and have done this whole month. I will have the occasional formed stool though. In regards to the blood this stopped a while ago when I switched to toilet wipes.

I have occasional abdominal pains/cramps. I also have passed mucus with and without stool a few times (not very often though)

My Gp has prescribed me Sertraline and Mebervine for my anxiety and pain. They keep reiterating to me it’s NOT cancer and it’s IBS. Yet I’ve only had bloods done. So I am obviously a bit worried it could be cancer!

I also have a lot of gas, and frequent urination.

I don’t have weight loss, loss of appetite or bloody stools.

Any idea on what to do? What this is?

Any help please?

Hello Jay, sometimes people will go through changes with their bowel habits for no reason at all. No one can really explain why this happens. It can be anything from something in their diet that suddenly doesn't agree with them. We all have a certain amount of mucus in our stools.

Based on what you have written above I suggest that you relax. Get the anxiety dialed back. Stop using the internet looking up symptoms, that will cause your anxiety to go through the roof. If I looked up my symptoms I would be like a ticking time bomb. Too many conditions over lap each other so that is another reason to stop using Dr Google.

Be relieved your drs have given you a good report.

Hello Straydog!

Thanks for your reply. My main concern is obviously soft flat stools. I do agree though I need to stop using dr google or searching symptoms. I also agree that lots of things overlap one another & this again makes it rather annoying when googling! :/

I suppose it’s good that doctors haven’t felt the need for me to have more tests based on my symptoms and blood tests smile

Thanks

Did your doctor check you for Infectious-Colitis or Ulcerative Colitis? Whenever I hear blood while wiping one's bum it seems like something to investigate. Should you see blood on your toilet paper again then I would ask about it. Skinny or flat stools could be from inflammation within the rectum, as well.

I don't mean to give you anxiety, but just wanted to make sure there isn't something going on that might need treatment.

Hi iPoop - nope doctor didn’t do any tests bar the bloods - where they checked FBC, Inflammation CEA etc. All came back clear. They said it was due to wiping too hard or a fissure/pile. I used creams and switched to Wipes and since then (2 weeks) I’ve not had any blood!

So I am still very unsure as to what’s going on? - It all started from a episode of Vomiting and Dirrhoea I had. Ever since then my bowels have been weird! :/

If it continues to or again bothers you then I would see a gasteroenterologist-specialist doctor. As they specialize in intestinal disorders like IBD/UC, IBS, or infectious-colitis. He/she can run a stool test to check for possible pathogenic causes to your symptoms. He/she can order a colonoscopy with biopsies. We can only guess based on what you describe. Tests are much more precise.

I'm not sure whether you have those things or not, as I am no doctor. If you have more troubles than seek out more testing.
