This link talks about Candidiasis and how birth control pills can contribute to bacteria overgrowth. It made me think of the success 7Lil is having now that she's gone off the pill.

yes, birth control pills most definitely increase yeast production and other bacteria but alot of yeast, that's why so many women get yeast infections, from being on the pill, I didn't get them until I went on the pill and had no idea that there was a connection...be nice if docs weren't so useless and would mention things being connected like that from time to time...I was getting alot of yeast infections for yrs all because of the stupid pill.

Hey Bera,
Thanks for the article! Funny, I never had any yeast infections but I sure feel a whole heck of a lot better since stopping the pill.
I just hope this article (and my experience) helps even just 1 person out there.
Thank you! :-)

I guess I just don't really understand why the pill increases yeast. It's not like it's an antibiotic. Does anyone know why this happens?

There's something in it that does it, I'm not sure yet what it is but I'll probably google it or something and find the answers...yes, it's common but it doesn't mean every woman will get yeast infections specifically but it still causes bacterial over growth, but taking probiotics can counteract that...so chances are women who take the BC pill and do not get alot of yeast infections probably take some kind of probiotic and/or eat yogurt enough to counteract it maybe.

Not me. I was on the pill 8 years and never took probiotics or ate yogurt (until just under 1 year ago). I have never had a yeast infection. I think some people are just more susceptible than others. My sister isn't even on the pill but she gets them a lot.
The pill contains estrogen and progesterone. When taken as a supplement both hormones, estrogen especially, causes an imbalance which leads to yeast overgrowth... hence, yeast infections. It isn't uncommon for post menopausal women on hormones to develop thrush and yeast infections.
