Oh! My! Gosh!  I just had one of the worst attacks I have ever had.  I am so sad.  Here's my story....

Today I was supposed to go see a concert in the city about 50 miles away.  (No big deal, no problem, I've been feeling great lately.)  I was psyched!  So we go to Thai for dinner... right away I notice the food is way spicier than I like.  But I eat anyway.  On our way to the city I start to feel the gurgles.  We're about 20 miles into our journey and I realize 'There is no way I can go!'  More gurgles come and then the waves of cramps start.  So I make my friend (ex-boyfriend) turn the car around and take me home.  I didn't think I was going to make it.  I haven't had cramps like this in months.  Furthermore, it was like I drank the prep for the scope.

What happened to me being cured?  Ever since I got off the pill I had been feeling great; not 1 IBS related complication.  Was the pill never really my problem?  Is this a fluke?  I am so sad, disappointed, discouraged, confused, angry, etc. etc.

I am missing my concert (as I type)....  sad

I'm sorry Lil. It does sound like the IBS is still there. I know, not very comforting words. If you had a problem and your friend didn't it sounds like it wasn't a problem with the food... it was your reaction to the food. Thai food has never agreed with me either. If fact, most asian foods don't but Thai is always a kicker. For this reason, I have only had Thai twice. Once to try, the second time to see if my reaction was actually to the food. I'm sorry about the concert. All I can say is at least you had a reaction before getting there and not while you were there. That would have made things worse.

7Lil,    I am so sorry for you!!!   I have been there so many times in the last 10 years!!!  I have missed concerts vacations planes you name it because of attacks..   Sometimes there is no ryme or reason for the attacks..  My husband had to buy an R.V. for me and my kids to travel in because there is a bathroom on board.   I am so affraid of going anywhere I have become a prisoner in my home..  It sucks!!!!!!!!!!  I have had every test there is and they tell me IBS.   What the hell!!!   They can do lung transplants and they can't figure this out!!!  Sorry I was going off on a tangent!!!  Anyway I feel your pain.   How do you feel now???   Did you make it home before you went??  I hope so.   Talk with you soon..   Ryleigh

Thanks you two! I don't feel much better. I have gone 2 more times. Neither as bad as the first though. I can see food... it is disgusting. Oh, and my ex is having trouble too (not as bad as me though). Maybe it was the spiciness for both of us. We have both visited the bathroom at my house. Good thing I have more than 1.
Anyway, thank you again for your sympathies.... it really means a lot to me that I have you all. No one else can know what I am going through besides you all.

Oh, Ryleigh, yes I made it home... but just barely. I was doing an awful lot of squirming in my seat.

Well, it sounds like it may have been the food if he was having problems too. I don't know if food poisoning can take affect so quickly, but maybe. Of course a lot of otherwise normal people can't handle a lot of spices. And from the few times I've eaten Thai food, it's tricky; it doesn't taste spicy at first, but then you start feeling the burn on your lips after a few minutes.

I think for right now you should chalk it up to the food and continue to be cautiously optimistic. It could be that because your intestinal tract is weaker (at the very least because it's been so sick lately), bad food or heavy spices affect you worse than other people. And it may also be that you do have IBS, but your BC was just making it worse. Which isn't a comforting thought except that at least you'll not be so bad so often, which is still an improvement. Still, I think you should blame this on the food and just make sure you take your Mexican and the like mild (no more Thai).

so sorry lil!
i hope you are feeling better, and yup, food poisioning only takes about 30min and lasts about a day, but in my experience it has been both vomiting and diarrhea...

take care of yourself!

Thanks everyone.
I have to say that I don't think it was food poisoning.  The experience wasn't bad enough - like bunny mentioned, I think there is vomiting too.  I had to run with D about 4 times and each time was less and less (no vomiting, no nausea).  My ex had to run with D twice.  It must have been a coincidence for him.  Sometimes it just happens that spices don't agree with us.
Anyway, I am feeling a lot better today.  Last night though, because I was holding it for so long (in the car racing back), the cramps seemed to stay with me for hours.  What a nightmare.
I think I'm going to stay optimistic about my IBS until something of the like happens again.  When/if that happens I know I'm going to break down.
Bunny, I was on my way to see Lifehouse.  They were at the smallest venue San Francisco has - I would have been 15 feet away.   sad   All night long we kept looking at the clock saying "Oh, they'd be coming on stage now."  "Oh, we'd be leaving now."  "Oh, we'd be getting home just about now."  I felt so defeated and angry with myself.  All the previous concerts I have gone to I had starved myself before hand because I knew I could not afford to take the chance.  Looks like I will continue to do that if I ever buy tickets again.

I have found that holding in diarrhea for too long does make it hurt worse afterwards. :-(

Hey Lil, I'm sorry girl, that sucks.  I'm glad you're feeling better now, though.  You know, food poisoning can occur within an hour or two after eating!  If you had really bad cramps and prep-like D, and your ex had D too, it could have easily been food poisoning, even without nausea/vomiting.  Or, like you said, it could have been the spiciness factor.  Either way, I hope you are now giving your bowels a good rest.  Mmm, diluted Gatorade anyone?
