My fantastic PCP, I found out, is leaving private practice.  sad She called this week to check up on me and I told her the sweet news that my guts are on the mend, it seems.  But I ran something by her offhandedly - the fact that twice in the past month, I have had vaginal bleeding after sex.  Both times were nowhere near my period and it seemed like quite a bit of blood...that has never happened to me before.  I didn't really think anything of it but thought I'd mention it.  She said I should get my annual gyn exam with a Pap as soon as possible to check things out.  After we got off the phone I remembered that about two years ago I had an abnormal Pap that was never really followed up on.  I had called my doc at the time and they told me not to worry about it too much, just go in for another Pap the next year.  Oh, joy, I thought, could waiting too long be coming back to haunt me?  So I went in for the exam yesterday with a nurse practitioner.  She thinks it could be cervical dysplasia.  Or perchance - mmm, love this one - chlamydia!  Or - even more delightful - cervical cancer!  Good gracious.  I've never been promiscuous and am always safe, so I think the chances of having an STD are pretty slim, but am having the test done anyway of course.  She also did a Pap to check for dysplasia or cancerous cells.

I'm sure this is something totally benign but jeez louise, I thought I'd go doctor-free for at least a few more months!  Isn't it funny how something you think is totally benign has everyone all up in arms...and then when there is something horribly wrong (like having D 30 times a day!), no one seems worried about it at all?  Crikey!

Sarita! You just seem to have one thing after the next. I'm sorry...

Really though, isn't it better if you did have chlamydia? I think it can be taken care of with penicillin. I really hope you don't have to add cervical dysplasia to your list of "problems."

Did Meg leave you with a referral to a new PCP?

Take care of yourself! And please, keep us posted.

After college, it's all downhill; you just start falling apart.

I hope it ends up being nothing but a yeast infection or something mild of that nature. I don't know if they can cause you to bleed, but with you, anything's possible. :-P I've read that a good way to prevent yeast infections and especially urinary tract infections is to pee after sex to flush your urinary tract out. Something about everything down there being "built" too closely together and getting cross-contamination.

If nothing comes back from the gyn, make sure you go back to your G.I. I've heard that intestinal ulcers can spread to the female reproductive tract. Of course that's no fun, but it would shed light on your IBS problem and it wouldn't be cancer.

Here's to hoping whatever you've got, it's fixable. You don't get fixed often enough as it is!

(((((Sarita))))) I sure hope that it turns out to be a better choice than the ones she gave you.

I had cervical dysplasia almost 15 years ago. If anything turns up on your PAP, they'll do a colposcopy to take some biopsies. My dysplasia was removed by laser surgery and I haven't had any problems since. For the first two years, I had a PAP every 6 months and since then I've been pretty good about doing it every year. Sometimes I'm a little late, but I do make sure I get there.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are also losing your PCP too. I know she's been so helpful to you through all that you've been through.

Well, it's not chlamydia or gonorrhea.  Came back free and clear for those.  This means that we have to wait for the Pap results; but I think she is going to refer me to a gynecologist now.  Yee gads.  In a way I was hoping it was chlamydia (so messed up, huh?) because it's so easy to treat!  Just a couple pills and you're done.  Now it's likely time for a colposcopy.  Which, I've heard, feels just like a regular ol' Pap.  Ah, the waiting game begins anew...thanks for the support, girls, as always!!!

Let me just tell you that I did NOT enjoy my colposcopy. Its sort of like a regular pap, except for the part where they pinch a clump of your cervix off!!! Then they put this strange medication on the cervix to heal it, and it ends up forming a clump that will present itself either in your underwear or the toilet after the cervix has healed some 2 days later. A very unpleasant experience.... I hope if you have to go through it its not as rough!

Ooh, ick, that does sound rough, Hopeful.  My friend told me she had an epidural when her scope was done and so it wasn't so bad.  We'll see what they want to do - Pap results should be back next week.

I wasn't too thrilled with the biopsies either, but didn't get that med that clumped for you, Hopeful. Sarita, it's not exactly fun, but if it needs to be done, that's the only option. I hope that all is well and you can avoid this whole thing.

Epidural? I'd rather not. Just the thought of sticking a needle into your spinal cord gives me the heebee-jeebies. And there's always a risk, however low, that they can paralyse you with it. Looks like they could give you just a little local anasthetic in there.

I think I can take a little pain, so if I need it I'll attempt to go as drug-free as possible!  Cross your fingers, the Pap results came in today and I'm going to see them this afternoon for the results and the rest of my exam.  Will let you know everything tonight!

With your level of pain tolerance, Sarita, you may not even feel anything, lol. :-)

I hope you get a good result.

Woohoo, my Pap was normal!  She said it could be a polyp in a funny place on my cervix that is causing the bleeding, and that I should see a gynecologist if it happens again.  I'm very relieved my Pap was normal this time!
