I have IBS-C, and am having a really difficult time right now, and want to see if I can get a script
for Zelnorm from my Doc. Has anyone tried it? I would appreciate and comments of those who know about
this med.
Thanks,
Sweet

I was on it for about
8 months. I loved it... It wasn't a cure but it worked wonders for me. At first it worked fabulously and then after about
a month it started to taper off. But it still worked better than if I took nothing.
There are, however, some members here who tried it and didn't like it. I think it gave them D and cramps. I never had D from it - but I did have headaches for the first few days. Maybe a couple cramps too (but nothing to give me D from). After those first few days went by I was feeling good. I was way more regular.
I hope you can get the RX, and I really hope it works for you.
Good luck!

I hate to rain on the parade but I was one of the ones that did not do good on Zelnorm however that doesn't mean that it won't be good for you. Since then I have found that I have a real sensitivity to a lot of different meds. I don't think that its much of an allergy than maybe an intolerance however Zelnorm had me in horrific cramps and D (the D I could live with but the cramps were really bad for me).

I'm on Zelnorm after Miralax didn't work. The Zelnorm works for me, with the exception of lately when I went on estrogen, which made me so C that nothing worked. Zelnorm never gave me cramps or D, just made it possible to have a BM.

Zelnorm was better than nothing in that I went more often and when I did get C it would correct itself within a few days (no laxatives necessary). I had no side effects except headaches the first few days. Didn't really help me with bloating or gas. However, once I started it was when I started to get the thin loose BMs that made me feel like I wasn't done and I was horribly bloated and gassy afterward. I stopped taking it a year ago and that still is what I have almost everyday (peppered with rare "normal" or completlely C days or few days a month), so even when I go I feel horrible (rarely have a "normal" BM like I did like 2-3 days a week like before). When the doc asked how much I improved as a percent I said 20-30. For over 150 dollars a bottle I don't know if it's worth it. Plus the effectiveness decreased pretty rapidly. I'd rather go normal a few days a week with a few bouts of C every month then go everyday and feel like I didn't with horrilbe gas and bloating like now.

Hi firecracker,
When I was IBS-C, I couldn't handle the zelnorm for other reasons... my doc put me on Miralax and it was very successful for me. You may want to ask your doc about
it.
