hey guys

i need some advice. i have been ibs-d for years and after reading these posts i finally started probiotics and calcium and about 6months later i am doing much better. i have been normal for about 4-6 weeks now and then all of a sudden in the last few days I have been noticing blood on the paper after a bm. there is no blood in the bowl, only a small amount on the t.p. this has happened for the last 3 days. should i be really concerned. i dont have insurance but i have never had any blood before> any ideas as to what it might be from??? thanks

Does your butt hurt? Are you constipated? Do you strain a lot? Do you sit a lot and not exercise much? It's possible you could just have a hemorrhoid.

I agree with 7Lil. Blood from hemorrhoids can be scary because it can range from a small amount on the tp to a bowl filled with it. I would though just check with your doc to make sure. He/she can probably do a fecal blood test and decipher it.

HI there,

Its highly likely you probably have either a haemarroid or an anal fissure which is a small tear in the lining of the anus.  This can happen from a hard bowel movement.  The usual symptoms are fresh red blood on the toilet paper and some pain when passsing a bm.  These tears usually heal on their own or you can get some ointment from your doc.

Good luck :-)

As icky as it is, I suffer from constipation and this happens to me basically on a regular basis - although I use the term 'regular' very loosely! :) Hard or large bm's can tear the lining resulting in an anal fissure, which will hurt like crazy while its happening, cause a little blood on the tp, and then you'll feel fine 10 minutes later. It sucks, but you can try things like stool softeners to help (although they don't help me so much...)
Good luck.
