Hello everyone!  My name is Jeni and I'm 24 years old ... I'm new to this website because I'm in search of some help and advice.

During the last week I've been experiencing the WORST pain I think I've ever had.  After I ate lunch on Friday afternoon I started cramping ... which actually felt like menstrual cramps at first ... and it has NOT gone away since!!  It would work out that I'd be okay in the morning ... I'd eat lunch ... and then about a half hour later ... I start to tighten up.  The last few days have been the worst.  It will get so intense that I feel like I'm going to be sick!!  I've taken Gas-X to try and relieve some of the pressure because I've been bloated as well and that helps for a little while but hasn't fixed anything yet.  A few months back I had this same experience and that lasted a week as well but I don't remember the pain being as terrible.  I went to the doctor then and there was no blockage ... and no problems.  I STILL don't know what caused that.

Does anybody have any helpful advice on what to help make this better?  Or better yet ... WHAT THE HECK IS THIS??

Hi Jeni,
Welcome to Healing Well :)
I have a heating pad at home and at the office that I use on a regular basis. When I get those pains and Gas-X won't work or if its cramping and the antispasmodic won't work, the heating pad is my only relief. Speaking of antispasmodics, did your doctor suggest these or prescribe to you? If it feels like menstral cramps then its most likely not gas as that tends to affect us a little higher in the gut. I take Symax however there are other antispasmodics out there. I would definitely suggest talking to your doc about this.

My mom has a corn pillow that we heat up in the microwave and you put on sore spots ... like sore arms or muscles, etc.  It's very much like a heating pad.  I slept with that last night because I was in so much pain and just plain tired of dealing with this irritating pain.  It helped ... because I was able to sleep ...

Are these meds you suggested OTC?

I used to have a rice pillow that I guess would be similar to your corn pillow that was also microwavable.  It was nice until my dog got a hold of it at her puppy stage :)

No, antispasmodics are available through prescription only.

There is a product available OTC for IBS called Digestive Advantage that is available. I take it occasionally and it does help some.
