I’m hoping I’m in the right place! My healthy, athletic happy 9 year old son randomly had intussusception back in October. It was easily reversed, and all’s been well since. We’ve met with a gastroenterologist. She was only concerned because of his age, considering this normally happens in babies. We did an ultrasound 2 weeks ago that showed he has lymph nodes that are on the larger side. They haven’t grown, or gone down in size since October. So now he needs to get an MRI. My anxiety is THROUGH the roof! I’m thinking the worst, and I’m absolutely terrified. He has a half brother who had mekels diverticulitis with perforation a few years ago. I wonder if somehow these things are related?! Maybe hereditary? Please help me not think worst case scenario!

Hi Megan, when it comes to our kids it's always terrifying. However, please try to rein in the anxiety as it will do you no good except wear you out physically & mentally. Anxiety can be horrible. Remind yourself when needed that you have a healthy active kiddo when your thoughts start wondering off.

I went to the Cleveland Clinic's website & looked up both as I am not familar with either of the two. First, neither one has anything to do with genetics so you can take that off the table. Typically both are seen in babies & young children. It sounds like you have a very good gi dr on board too. The MRI will be much more definitive than an ultrsound, so the dr is covering all bases to make sure nothing is being missed. There are a variety of things that can cause lymph nodes to become enlarged & that's good news nothing has changed since October.

Take care.
