Hi guys

just researching and trying some things for my ibs at the mo (just about to try some DA) and wonder if anybody has much sucess with fibre products (bulk laxatives) which you can buy otc

my symptoms are generally upset stomach with bloating, some D and occasional C

But even when my poops are solid (which they usually are) they are often also long and thin and come out rather quick! (sorry if this is gross)

Just wondering if anybody has similar symptoms with which they use fibre to control - it seems logical that the fibre would bulk things out a bit and add more stability to things!

All thoughts are welcome

thanx  :-)

The fiber will make things easier to pass because of the consistency and because it bulks up the stool. Fiber is suggested for all D, C, and for hemmrhoids. You have to remember though that it is so important (I can't stress enough) to drink lots of water because fiber absorbs water and not enough water intake can cause constipation. I take the Metamucil tablets and I eat 2 bowls of frosted mini wheats a day for my fiber intake. I will be looking into konsyl which supposedly has the most fiber per dose OTC.

Yeah that's what I usually get and I feel really bloated and gassy afterwards.  Citrucel has helped it, even though I ate plenty of fiber before.

I had a bad experience with Citrucel and vowed never to try it again. I don't, however, have trouble with Metamucil. When I remember I take 1 pill here and there. My doc suggested taking Psyllium - says it is one of the easiest on the gut (gas & bloat wise).
It is worth a shot, roadtrip. :-)
Let us know how the DA works for you.

I use "Prodiem" (similar to metamucil...it's an insoluble fibre, very important in sweeping the bowel clean of bacteria and such...trick is, drink plenty of water with it, it even says so on the bottle, I use pill form, no taste, take one everynight before bed...has done wonders...it's highly recommended for both IBDers and IBSers...rather then having a bunch of trips to the toilet with small deposits, I now go fewer times and having bigger deposits. Non-toxic and safe to use everyday, forever, especially if you aren't able to get enough insoluble fibre on a regular daily basis through food alone.

take care
