Have any of you used Phopho Soda long-term, as a laxative, not a colon prep?

I have suffered from IBS for over 30 years, and ultimately became laxative dependant.  about 3 years ago, I started using phosphosoda once a week (3 Tbs) just so I could have a BM (nothing else would do sad )... yea, that's the nasty stuff some docs recommend as a colon prep.  Anyway, about 6 months ago, I developed pain in my URQ that has been getting progressively worse.  I am to the point that I think I should mention it to my doc, but first wanted to see if there was anyone else out there who has used phosphosoda regularly, as a laxative.  I doubt there's a connection between my pain and my long-term use of phosposoda, but I just came across some interesting information about kidney dangers being associated with phosphosoda in some people.

Upper Right Quadrant pain... the pain actually feels likes it's in my right ribcage, sometimes radiating to my back.

jbara,

How long have you been using the phospho??? Have you been using it everyday faithfully for the last 3 yrs???

Please STOP, it can cause problems, of which I can't remember correctly, something to do with causing ulcers in the intestines, if you go to the Crohns forum here at HW and simply post a new topic asking "what are the effects of using phospho on a regular basis?" Then I know you'll get the appropriate info from someone there, but please don't take it anymore.

take care

pb4, thanks for the response.  In answer to your question, no I have not been taking it every day, but I have been taking the maximum dose (3 Tbs) every week for about 3 years.  I'll take your suggestion and pose the question on the CD site... because I have UC (diagnosed 2 years ago), think I will raise the question on the UC too.  I've never heard of phosphosoda causing intestinal ulcers... should be interesting to see what kind of response I get.

I was just there, glad you posted over there...although surprised that so far no ones mentioned anything about the ulcer type sores that I'm sure I heard about somewhere???? Anyhow, hopefully you'll get good guidance and info over there from my fellow CDers (I put my 2 cents in over there as well to see if it would strike any response of the possibility of that being a concern or if I was mistaken about something eles)

take care
