Hey everyone, I have a question for yah.

I know IBS is directly linked to stress, but I was just wondering what kind of symptoms you get from it. Like, right now, I'm having boyfriend problems, im almost failing chemistry and school is just killing me, so Im having some MAJOR stress problems. Like, ive been super gassy, I just had kinda a weird poop, and im kinda tired all over and my stomach is kinda tight, almost like im hungry but im not. Ive also got a killer headache...do yall get like that under severe stress?? Just wonderin..

Hi Blondie ,

I totally get like that when I am stressed. The other day I had to go to Court for my first appearance as a paralegal (just for my dads boss, nothing too cool!) but just before I went in I started getting really nervous and stressed, then my stomach started getting all crampy and uncomfortable. Thank god I calmed myself down before a real attack came on but I totally understand what you are going through!

Blondie, I get those EXACT same symptoms! The stomach tightening thing really creeps me out... I'm kinda glad you brought it up and I'm not the only one it happens to.
I try pattern breathing and maybe a brisk stroll to calm my nerves.

Good luck with the boy and school! I wish I could say it gets better, but it really doesn't. When you're older it will be men, work and bills.

When I get stressed I start to tighen up and my stomach starts to feel odd. The best way to describe it is "not quite right." Can you have a iPod at school or a CD player? When I start getting all tense--like on my way to a job interview--I turn on some classical music and force my mind to go off on some totally unrelated tangent, like what am I going to fix for dinner or what chores need to be done at home, etc. Obviously you can't tune out like that during a class, but maybe you can between classes or during breaks?

I had some trouble with chemistry, but I was worst at physics. It was a good thing my school had built-in tutorial periods, because I was in every one of them. It took an extra hour and a half twice a week, one-on-one with the teacher just to grasp what everyone else got from reading the book or listening in class. But hey, once I got it, I got it and it stayed stuck. I think what saved me in chemistry were the 6 weeks we spent on radioactivity. For some reason balancing equations and radioactivitiy were two things that I really understood without help. I was SO much better at English and history. In fact, I ended up a history major in college. Just get through the science now and then you can pretty much skip it in college and focus more on what you're good at. I only had to take one science class in college and I took astronomy because I liked it the best of all the sciences.

Stress can really do a number on your insides!  I was burned out from my job, and planning a wedding.  try to find any way you can to relax, and hopefully the symptoms will relax too.  Hang in there girl!

heck yeah! stress sucks, totally screws up my insides, AND my sleep... it is a hard cycle to break! i get headaches and diarrhea and cramping and plain old yuckiness!
i have found that yoga/running relieves me and music, journalling and some quiet meditation helps me.

but sometimes i gotta break out the soy ice cream and peanut butter and watch some comedy!!! (of course before the diarrhea sets in!!!!)
Good luck with the boy and school!

I am trying to pin point my anxiety. I feel a overwhelming feelings, irritable and just not right. I don't have much of an appetite and my stomach is strange feeling......nervous. I take Zoloft for panic disorder since 1999 and I am not sure what is going on now? I am stressed! I worry so much about what is wrong with me.....and I still haven't heard from my gastro docs office as of today.

Hi JHP, You may need to change from Zoloft to something else. It is known that sometimes that people can actually become immune (probably not the right term) to medications and they just stop working. I would discuss this with your doctor.
