Hi! I have IBS and it sucks. I am currently taking Zelnorm for it. Seems to help quite a bit. But I still get the cramping/fullness. Anywho, I need some ideas right now. I am experiencing one of my "attacks" and it is 10:00pm. Would LOVE to go to bed soon. BUT, my lower abdomin is hurting. I have tried liquid suppositories and they got my colon to rumble and cause a crumbly BM. I can't stand up straight, lay down with my gut feeling like I got a foot in my gut. Anyone know how to deal with this?? The pain seems to come and go. Sometimes really intense, other not so bad. I've been drinkin water, but if I drink too much, I'll find myself vomitting soon.

I have 2 episodes that have kept me up all night. My last BAD one, I was vomitting bile alot. I went to an immediate care center and had an X-Ray done. They found some stool, but I felt it wasn't enough to cause what I had going on. These attacks like to start late in the evening before I go to bed. Some only last for a while, others want to drag one thru part of the night. Doesn't seem to be any particular trigger either. Some foods can cause one time, next time I eat the same foods, I am fine. So, there is no pattern.

Nothing I do seems to lessen the effects. I've lying down sticking my butt in the air. I got rumblies doing that tonight, but nothing more. I have tried enema's and liquid suppositories, the kinda work and can make my gut hurt even worse. I've tried hot baths and heating pads. Seems like when thing works one time, it doesn't the next.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Are you constipated or do you have diarrhea? You sound like you have a lot of the symptoms of gall bladder disease, but that is associated with diarrhea, not constipation (although some people don't have a change in bowel habits much either way). Severe constipation can cause vomiting if the digestive tract is so blocked that food can't come down. I assume when they x-rayed you they were looking for blockages or kinks in your intestinal tract that would be causing constipation?

The rumbling in your intestines sounds like either excess gas or muscle spasms. Try taking some anti-gas pills, like Beano, Gas-X or chewable gas relief tablets. You may need multiple doses if you have a lot of gas. Be sure to take them before you eat to help prevent gas caused by digestion. If that doesn't help or doesn't help much, ask your doctor to prescribe you an anti-spasmodic like hyoscamine (which, actually, doesn't do a thing for me but does work for other people; you may have to try several to find one that works for you).

And, as I always warn people, never, ever consume any sugar-free product (including gums and mints) as the sugar alcohols in them can cause terrible gas, cramping and diarrhea. 1 gram of that junk will lay me up in the bed for two solid days.

Thanks for the reply. I dunno if I have constipation or not. I usually have at least 1 good bowel movememnt a day. On days where I do have the "attack", my bowels sometimes empties before the "attack" gets worse. This leaves me to believe that constipation is not the likely culprit. The longest I've gone w/o a bowel movement is about 3 days. Even then, it turns out fine. Like I mentioned before, ntohing really triggers it. I work in a high-stress enviroment all the time. My diet isn't the best either. I eat out a lot. The frequency that I get these "attacks" is like once in a few weeks. At one point, when I was working 3rd shift, I would have them almost every night before I got off that shift. It doesn't wake me up in the night, but I have a hard time getting to sleep.

I have tried hyoscimine, it doesn't work for me. Even then, the stuff can cause constipation. When I do have the vomitting fits, my body doesn't want to stop. After each round, the pain seems to get worse and worse. This thing wouldn't be such a hassle if it allowed me to sleep. I've had all nighters thanks to IBS.

When I was X-Ray'd, all they told me was that my bowels had some stool in them. They also told me their equipment wasn't that great and that I should go to the ER next time I have an episode like that. I ended up getting an anti-nausea shot a nd toradol shot for the pain. The bile I would vomit up didn't burn at all. It almost tasted like Tussionex (a cough syrup) that was a bright yellow. Anywho, the Zelnorm seems to have lessen the effects of the IBS. I don't have nearly as many episodes as I used to.

Thanks again!

Have you read my post (it's down a little ways on the main page) on the symptoms of gall bladder disease? While mine was diarrhea predominant, some people don't have diarrhea but do vomit.
