New Here - Question about Flagyl

I've been having a lot of problems since I had my DS 17 months ago...severe diarrhea, abdominal cramping, hair breakage, extreme weight loss, fatigue, skin discoloration...

I was diagnosed with H Pylori Gastritis last year, and it's either back or it never went away.  I've had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done, didn't find anything except the H Pylori Gastritis.  Also tested negative for Celiac Disease.

My GI just got the biopsy results back from my Endoscopy, which came back normal.  But he's perscribing me Flagyl.  I found this site when looking up some information on it.

Any advice...I'm really frustrated.  I've been dealing with a lot of stress as well, but with my symptoms, especially the extreme weight loss, my GI is convinced there's something more wrong with me- as well as my husband, family, and friends.

Just don't know what to do!  Thanks!

He probably is prescribing flagyl to kill the H Pylori which will give you problems if you don't treat it. Are you taking probiotics to replenish your good bacteria that the flagyl will kill off? If not, you may find that probiotics will help with your D also as its helped many people. Is your weight loss because of loss of appetite, diarrhea, or both? A lot of others have also had success with calcium therapy. Lil, the other moderator has the link to that thread bookmarked and I'm sure she'll be by soon to give you that info. Have you had any blood tests or anything to rule out IBD besides the scopes? If your GI is convinced that you have something else then you may want to suggest mroe tests. I know they are a pain but they will give you answers and/or peace of mind.

When I was diagnosed with H. Pylori I was given Amoxicillan, Prevacid and Biaxin for 2 weeks double strength then tested after 2 months to see if it went away. Flagyl will work for Clostridium Difficle. I did not know that it was given for H. pylori. My tests prior to treatment came back negatie for h. pylori but my Dr. said from looking at the polyps and gastritis in the stomach that I had it. Apparantly I did. I don't think the Flagyl is for h. pylori
