Hi I have been dealing with constipation for about 3 years now. I have been on zelnorm for about a year and still no relieve, the doctor told me to stop taking the zelnorm and wants me to try REGLAN.

He assures me that it will take care of the bloating, this is my 3rd day of taking it and was wondering if anyone has taken it for bloating and constipation and does it acutally take away the bloating.

If not could anyone give me some advice on what meds would help with the bloating.

My mother was on reglin (and she gave some to me when I was sick with my gall bladder problems). The only use I know of for it is to make the stomach empty out. You know how sometimes you feel like your meal is just sitting there and it won't empty out and it's making you a little nauseous? The reglin will make your stomach empty out.

I guess his theory behind this is that your constipation issues are caused by motility problems--your food stays in your guts too long (I don't know if reglin makes your intestines empty out like it does your stomach, but it at least gets the process started with the stomach). You gas may also be caused by your food sitting in your stomach and breaking down in there instead of lower down in your intestines.

Worth a try to see if it helps, at any rate. I'm not aware of any serious side affects with it, other than I was always revenously hungry the morning after I took it (I got sick at night usually) because there was nothing left on my stomach. It never made me poop more that I am aware of, but when I had to take it, I was sick with stomach problems and diarrhea at any rate. It's not a laxative; I think it's just a motility drug for the stomach.

I take Motilium to move the food out of the stomach faster. The longer it stays there the more acid that is produced. It seems to work pretty well and is much cheaper than Reglan with less side effect warnings. Unfortunately I can't get it in the US as it has been on the market so long in every other country that it is not profitable to go thru the FDA regulation. I beleive there is at least someone else using it on the forum. It is only about 30 cents a pill.
