Does anyone know if primadophilos reuteri (natures way brand) is ok or affective for adults.  It states for children 5yrs and younger but nothing for adult usage.  The product does contain 4 or 5 other strains of probiotic as well.  I dont know why they advertise it for children.  Can anyone shed light on this.  I know adults useing this product.  Are they wasteing their money??

                                                                             THANKS

I don't know why they would market a probiotic specifically to children except maybe kids need that kind of bacteria more than adults. Kids do have a weaker immune system than adults--as they get older and survive all those things they catch, it gets stronger. So maybe that strain is extra of what they need to help fend off diseases. Little kids also drink more milk than adults, so it may have something to do with digesting milk.

I don't think it's a complete waste for adults to use it, but it may contain more of one strain than adults have need for--which means you'll just poop out the excess. I would think it would be better to get a package that was either just for adults or for adults and kids equally because that's more likely to contain some of everything that an adult has use for. All probiotics are good for you, but it may be even more helpful if, at certain stages of life, you get extra of the strains you are more likely to need/use.

Does the box have a 1-800 number on it for questions and comments? You can always ask them directly if it's effetive for adults or what they recommend in lieu of that particular product.

Hi gjkdc,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
Anything that is safe for children is safe for adults. And, yes, I've seen a few members on here mention Natures Way. Try it. If you don't see results after a couple weeks, try another brand. Probiotics are great for you no matter which you take.

I use primadophilus reuteri made by natures way, they sell a pediatric formula and an adult one in the powder form for sure, you must have purchased the pediatric one...I use one tsp of powder mixed with a little water...and no, it's definitely not a waste of money, especially if you get the right one for you.

The reason they market one for children including newborn infants is for those who are not breastfed and able to get the enzymes for balancing out bacteria in the system...I don't know if any other brand markets for infants/kids but it's definitely a good idea.

Also, I would give it more then a couple of weeks it can take a couple of months depending on how much bacteria you presently have to combat.

:)
