I am going to get some probiotics this weekend and give them a try I have a few questions on them though.1) what kind would be the best to get. 2)if I try these will they make me go more at the beginning of taking them becasue if so I am not even going to try them. 3) Say I try these and it winds up being a bacteria or something that these are supposed to help...Is it possible that I will return to normal? Although its been so long I forget what normal is. 4)Say I take these and it does work.Do I need to keep taking them everyday or do you stop after so long. and finally (sorry so many) Is it possible it could be a bacyeria or parasite after loose stools for a lot of years???

Thanks all for you paintence and all advice given is greatly appreciated.

i take acidophilus, by SOLGAR. i find it in the refridgerated section of Whole Foods. the kind i take is "advanced multi-billion dophilus". i took about two weeks for me to see a difference, i now take about two to three a day.
i think i can answer your third question, i had bacteria overgrowth--but taking acidophilus actually helps. i needed an antibiotic to kill the bad bacteria and acidophilus to replenish the good stuff... (the anti biotic is called xiafaxan)
my diarrhea stayed the same when i started taking it... i don't remember it getting worse, just staying constant. then i started to notice i got less attacks...(but i also started on the xiafaxan--if you suspect bacterial overgrowth there is a test for it, hydrogen breath test, or lactulose breath test)
i take it pretty much everyday (probiotics), i have forgotten a few times... i also try to eat yogurt every day--but sometimes you just aren't in the mood!

just make sure you get a good brand of probiotics. don't skimp on your health--even though it is tempting. for instance acidophilus should be refridgerated...
take care and best of luck,

I take i caplet a day of primadophilus reuteri made by natures way, it's got guarenteed intestinal release and have made a HUGE improvement for me, they're also affordable, check out your local health food store and if they don't carry it, if you ask them, I'm sure they'll special order it in for you, mine did.

I have crohns disease and IBS, taking these probiotics helped reduced the amount of trips to the toilet....using proediem (similar to metatmucil) has bulked up my stools and also helped in the frequency department as well...it usually takes more then one thing to help with crohns, the same may be true for IBS.

Probiotics that I take did not make me go more, they helped me go less and the prodiem helped me go less and give me formed stools.

hope this helps, take care
