I've had this very sharp upper right abdominal pain for the last 6 years.

It has gotten worse over the years.

The doctors have ruled out gall stones...it has the same symptoms of galls stones or

gall bladder disease...Ultrasound turned up negative.

Here are my symptoms:

Constant Day & nite sharp upper right abdominal pain under my right rib cage.

Feels like gas trapped under my rib cage..feels like a spasm according to my doctors.

I went to emergency room once cuz it flared up so bad. Under my right rib cage

was hard as a rock..not sure what caused it. feels  life threatening at times.

Especially eggs and caffeine will cause pain and anything with alot of fiber

will cause it to flare up w/ much pain. My doctors have not given me any meds

that helped the pain. Unable to eat regular amts of food. Small amt will fill me up.

Have gas at least once every 15 min and only gas X has helped a little bit in easing

my abdominal pain. My bowel movements are like thin stools. Beer seems to help the pain.

I've seen red colored & partially black colored stools a few times.

Does this sound like IBS to anyone, even tho the doctors ruled out stomach & liver cancer....not sure. At times I've taken Vicodin to ease the pain but it helps temporarily.

Any advice would help.

Did they do a hida scan on you? Ultrasounds will ONLY show gall stones, but you can have gall bladder problems and not have stones. The hida scan tests for gall bladder function. And even then they can turn up false negatives; I had three before they finally found my gall bladder wasn't working properly.

Reddish and blackish poops are not a symptom of either IBS or bad gall bladders. Bad gall bladders tend to give you yellow poop. IBSers have either brown or yellowish poop, although people with diarrhea can have other colors, like green, based on what they eat. I would be concerned with reddish and blackish poops if you can't blame them on something you ate. Anything with a lot of red food coloring--like Kool-Aid--can color your poops red. Also Pepto Bismol can turn your poops black. But if you aren't eating/drinking anything like that and are still getting poops that color, then you need to see a doctor and get tested for blood in your stools. If you haven't had a colonocopy yet, you should get one of those too.

Have you asked to see if there is a prescription gas reliever or if you can take more than the recommended dosage of Gas-X? Some people just have extra strength gas. Make sure you use a hot water bottle or heating pad frequently too since I think we've all found a little relief from the cramping with those.
