Hi Everyone.  I have been suffering with IBS-D for 14 years. I am 34 years old.  It has pretty much controlled my life since then.  I have a 6 1/2 year old son who doesn't understand why I can't go to his t-ball games.  Luckily I have a very understanding husband.  I have been going to the same Dr for 14 years.  I have had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, sigoscopy (sp?) and all kinds of test everything comes back negative.  Today I have an appointment with a total new DR.  I am so frustrated and at my wits end that I don't know what to do.  I have no life, I do not go anywhere.  I have a really problem using public restrooms.  If I do go somewhere  I do not eat all day long. I don;t understand with as much as I go and as often that I go that I am still overweight. (obese, by the Dr's standards)  Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks

Well, I went to my appointment today.  The new Doc is running a whole new set of test.  He drew blood today for several different tests.  I have another colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled for 6/30.  We will see what happens.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you Sheryl... I go for both scopes on 6/29 so I'll think of you.

I have used it, it really helps some people.  However, you have to really monitor your use and make sure that you don't get constipated.  They pulled Lotronex off the shelf before because people who didn't need the medicine were taking it and got bad blockages.  So if you are on it and you feel like you are getting constipated, you need to cut back a bit so you don't get blocked.

However, they also have a lot of restrictions on taking the medicine now.  The dr has to have forms signed that allow him to prescribe it and you have to sign paperwork.  Then, you can only get one month at a time and you have to go back to the dr every month for more.  At least that's the way it was a while back.

Good luck, I've got an appt monday and I fear that a colonscopy is in my future too.

I had heard that too.  I was looking online for the different kinds of meds used to treat IBS and that is one of the ones that came up.  Right now I am using chlordiazepoxide/clidinium bromide, and it doesn't seem to help much at all.  Originally I was prescribed Librax but it did some weird things to me.  I would take it a half hour before I ate (like it said too) and within 10 minutes my mouth was completed dry, no salivia at all.  My throat would close up and I could not swallow anything. During the night my mouth would dry out so bad, it would stick together and I will tell you I was never constipated a day in my life except when I took this stuff.  For at least 2 weeks I was taking it and duh...never realized it was the Librax doing this to me, I was constipated for over a week.  Man, of Man I can remember thinking while I was having the diarhea "what I wouldn't give to be constipated"....I don't ever think that anymore!!! tongue    Maybe the test will show something that the other Dr missed.  We will have to wait and see.
