Just wondering if any of you have tried the new drug, Amitiza, for IBS with constipation?  I tried Zelnorm but it didn't help, and am hoping maybe this new one actually does what it's supposed to do. Thanks!

I took it a few times.  Didn't really notice much of a difference.  My C might be a bit different though.  I pretty much go every day but it's "incomplete evacuation" so I go a little bit at a time.  And my stool is soft and mushy not hard.  So the doc thought it might help with this and reduce the bloating.  Well it didn't really help much and it made me very nauseated.  It's worth a try I suppose.  Good luck.

Thanks for your post!

My C sounds a lot like yours, actually, though I only go when I take several products, and like you, it's always incomplete and soft/mushy.  I'm sorry you have to go through the same misery, bless your heart.  I actually think I have colonic inertia and am seriously looking into colon removal surgery, hopefully the surgery without the bag. Have been reading encouraging posts about it in the Ostomies forum on this website.  My quality of life is 0 with my problem and I am extremely ill all the time because I can't get waste out of my body.  Do you feel really ill as well?

Not sure if I'll try the Amitiza, but if I don't, I'll probably always wonder "What if...".  The Zelnorm did nothing for me, so I'm not sure this one will.

Thanks again for your post!

I have had IBS w/chronic constipation for twenty years. I‘ve tried everything known; prescription & non-prescription but have not had any relief with these symptoms. This condition dominates my life and I just can’t live with it any more. I am seeing a surgeon in a couple of weeks for consultation to have a colon resection.

Has anyone had this surgery for this type of IBS? If so, did you have good results? What was your recovery time and how did it affect your body? I would really appreciate any information given!

Thank you so much,
Dana

Hi Dana,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
I'm sorry to hear about your stuggles with IBS-C. I know you said you've tried everything... but does your GI really suggest surgery to correct your problem? Most GI's (that I've heard of) only give surgery as an option for people with IBD. I'm really curious to see what the surgeon says. Please keep us posted.
I don't know of anyone here on the IBS board that has had surgery for "IBS"... You might want to try the Ostomies forum or even the UC and/or Crohn's board.
Good luck!
