Hello all,

I have had diarrhea almost every day for almost 4 months now...I am happy to say that the Dr. Rx me a medicine called Colestid and it has slowed it down enough that I am starting to do my "normal" things again...thank God.  Anyway, I am experiencing really bad hair loss.  Does anybody else have this, or have had this experience??  I stopped birth control pills in February (before the diarrhea started) and went back on them at the end of May...I have been so stressed out over all of this IBS stuff with all of the tests and all and not knowing what is causing all of this diarrhea (all tests were pretty much normal so IBS is the Dx)...I also haven't been eating very much because I am afraid of what it will do to me (I am eating much better now)...and I have lost about 10lbs.

Could this be why I am losing hair??  From what I have read, it sounds like a condition called TE, when your hair enters into the resting phase and sheds rapidly.  ANybody else have this happen??  And of so, when does it stop?

It's been happening to me for a couple years and hasn't stopped. Sometimes it slows down, but it's no where near "normal" everyday hair loss. I just keep taking a multi-vitamin and pray it helps.
I was on birth control as well... I got off it months agao thinking it would help the hair loss, but it didn't. It has helped my IBS though.
Good luck!!

Hi Shelly,

It's your IBS twin here! And as you know, I am also losing hair rapidly. This has become so bad that my scalp is visible over my forehead. ugggh. I have long hair with bangs- used to be I would only find long hairs in the shower, on the floor, etc. but for past couple months have had the short bangs falling out, too. Very disconcerting to have this happening. My nails are growing like weeds from all the calcium I take- why can't my hair grow, too??? They say that it can be due to stress and we have sure had our share of that, haven't we?

I am glad that the colestid is working for you. I'm thinking of getting my Questran prescription filled after I get back from vacation (leaving Wed.) that way next time I see my GI doctor if the Questran doesn't work I can ask for the Colestid to try.

There was a recent post on the anxiety board about hair loss, too, if your interested.

Hope you continue to stay outta the outhouse!

I went through a period of several months where I lost some hair. I went to my gyno and she did a full hormonal check-up of me, but everything came back normal. She said that people's hair just naturally comes and goes sometimes--hers had done that--and that as long as nothing is wrong medically--lack of vitamins, hormone imbalance--then it will grow back on it's own. And it eventually did.
