My goodness! Since I have found these Healing Well forums I never realized how many mental and phyical diseases I suffer. After a colonoscopy five years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. Fortunately for me it only flares up during my severe anxiety, hypochondria and phobia attacks.
I remember my doctor put me on a medication for it but it seemed like it was for short term use such as when the IBs flares up. Is this true or is there a good medication to take daily to prevent the flare ups?
Running to the potty,
I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said, "That cannot be true. You haven't met everyone yet!"

I wonder what medicine he put you on, since I am not aware of any medicine that effectively treats IBS. Most people treat diarrhea with calcium, fiber, imodium, probiotics or some combination of any of them. People with constipation treat theirs with aloe vera, prunes, chemical laxatives and there are a couple of prescriptions out there for severe and chronic constipation.

But a lot of people on here, with both types, are treating their problems with anti-anxiety meds. This keeps them from worrying themselves into IBS and some types have even been found to correct intestinal problems in people who are not anxious--suggesting a chamical imbalance in the "brain" that operates the intestines.
