After having diarrhea every day since Feb 1st and a diagnosis of IBS-D, I went on vacation last week.  It was a long drive and towards the end of the drive I had very bad D.  Then, didn't go at all the next day.  For the next 4 days, I had "normal" solid, big BM's- once a day!  Just like old times!!!  While on vacation, I ate all kinds of food and frequently skipped my calcium and acidofolus.  Now am back home and guess what?!?  ITS BACK!  Bummer, but it does lend more proof to the fact that alot of my problem seems to be anxiety related.  Sure was fun to be "normal" again for those few days!  Just thought it was interesting and wondered if anyone else has experienced this while on vacation?  Guess I need to go on more frequent vacations!

I was having diarrhea every day last summer when my fiance and I went on vacation up to Kentucky. I had diarrhea some on the trip up, but I really hit the imodium hard because we were going on a tour of Mammoth Cave!! I did fine in there and was fine the rest of the time so long as I had an imodium in the morning and something light and simple for breakfast (I think I just drank Slim Fasts). I didn't have any more diarrhea until I came back home and then I was back up to usually needing a second imodium.

I didn't feel stressed at the time, but maybe I was (because I was unemployed) and just didn't realize it. It was a fun trip, though. I eventually got my diarrhea to quit after getting on the calcium regimen. I think my inital problem was an allergic reaction to sugar alcohol, coupled with having been off my bile medicine too long.

Hey Sami,

I'm going to Alabama this weekend.  Maybe I'll get the 4 dy cure too!  I'm ready to try ANYTHING!  This is getting so old. My stomach feels upset all of the time too. ugh.

Glad you had a fun vacation.

Keriamon glad you did not have troubles in the Mammoth cave; that could've been bad! We spent alot of time boating on vacation and that was kinda scarey at first- but I had no trouble at all- even waterskiied!

Shelly I hope you get the vacation cure, too!!!! At least try and relax and forget about the D!

Boating? No problems there. My mother's pooped in the ocean before, so it's not like you can't get in the water and take off your suit and do your business, LOL.

I had a similar experience... I went to Brazil a few weeks ago and didn't have D once. I didn't even have to take Imodium (except to for my flight there and back - just to be on the safe side). I ate fried foods, chocolate and all sorts of junk while in Brazil. It must be the stress of home that makes IBS kick into gear.

OMG too funny! STOP THE BOAT so I can jump in and poop! Guess it's better than in your suit.

Lil- I think it is the stress of home that makes it kick in! I am thinking of going on a short vacation to my mom's house just 45 minutes from home to test this theory.

Some people would argue spending time with the parental units does NOT constitute a vacation, LOL.

But when I was growing up, going to Nanny's was my release valve. Nanny took care of everything, I could be as lazy as I wanted and wear my pajamas all day and not take a bath and watch television for 14 straight hours and all that other fun stuff that's like heaven to a kid.
