Hello! I just found this forum; thank God! I was diagnosed with IBS 20-some years ago. I have had trouble off and on over the years with different foods, etc, just like everybody else. However, in early May, I had an attack like I've never had before and wonder if anybody else symptoms like this.

I have cramping in my upper abdomen, then it kind of moves down to my lower abs in a wave of pain. My upper abdomen is bloated and gassy. After a very bad attack in May, my doc gave me Belladonna for the cramping and it definitely helps. I've been dealing with an attack now since Monday and have taken the meds and it is helping. My main problem now, however, is still a bit of bloating and my stomach is sore inside, if that makes sense! I suppose with all the cramping, it is irritated rather like a pulled muscle? I walked through our backyard last night and my stomach was so painful and tender; it just felt like it was full and bounced with every step. I also notice when I stand and stretch straight up, it is sore and almost feels like it's pulling and is a bit painful then, as well.

Anybody else deal with pain like that? I've never had this particular problem with it, but I suppose it will act differently with each person, as well as differently from attack to attack. Lordy, ain't this fun?? mad

Oh my god! I thought I was the only person on the planet with symptoms like yours. Only on top of that pain and bloating I seem to be having gas pains in my chest that feel like a heart attack. I have gone to the ER 3 times to make sure I wasn't. Yesterday my new doctor put me on zelnorm and hyoscayamine, mylecon and benefiber powder. I got up this morning with no pain or gas. Of course I am affraid to eat anything but bananas, rice or toast. And no one has told me if I will ever be able to eat anything else ever again (diagnosed 3 mos. ago) but I definitely feel better

When I had gall bladder attacks, I cramped up so bad that the next day I would feel sore down inside, like I had a pulled muscle, so I know exactly how you feel. I think it's just the muscles tensing up for so long that they get sore afterwards, just as if you had worked them really hard.

Well, that's sort of a relief, I guess!! At least I know that what's happening most likely is IBS and not something else starting up. Of course, the ER doc told me that was what he thought it was since I'd suffered from other symptoms of it before. But, when something different starts happening, you always wonder!! You know, the paranoia sets in, you start thinking maybe there's something more wrong than you thought, the whole anxiety thing. Good grief!

Hi beach & stressed319,
Welcome to HealingWell!  :-)
On occasion, when I get a bad attack, I have the same soreness and pain too.  It must be from our muscles tensing up and/or intestinal spasms.
My IBS starts in my stomach from nausea, heartburn, and fullness all the way through to C, D, gas and bloating.
Don't people get sore after puking?  I would think it happens for the same reason to us... When we have attacks we use muscles we forgot we had.

Would anyone know if it is normal with IBS to have gas pains in your chest within a couple of hours of eating. Are there some tried and true things a sufferer can eat without trouble. I've lost 76lbs and am starving to death.

Yes, it is not uncommon to have gas pains in your chest.... It radiates. Just to be on the safe side, have you talked to your doc about it?
I don't believe losing weight is too uncommon with IBS, however I do feel 76lbs is a lot. What does your doctor say about this? Have you thought about eating high calorie foods like avacado milkshakes and Ensure? The best way to keep on weight is to eat often. Avoid large 3 meals a day and have like 6 small meals. I'm constantly munching on crackers, yogurt, pears or pretzels. I've lost weight too, but this seems to be the best way for me to keep from losing more.
Whatever you do, please don't starve yourself. Speak to a doctor right away about your options. Maybe an anti-anxiety med will help. ???
