I know I am posting a million times but for those of you who are hypochondriacs, such as myself, know what I am going through. Over the last week I have read every possible article on the internet about IBS. I have read ALL the symptoms. There are so many that are overlapping and most of all vague.

There are two things that still are not clear to me so I hope someone can explain.

Can you have IBS and have NO constipation and NO diarrhea?

Most all articles I read said the number one symptom of IBS is abdominal discomfort. But they do not go on to describe it. What type of abdominal discomfort do people with IBS have?

Thanks for putting up with me. I AM going to the doctor on the 18th and going to set up an appointment for that dreaded colonoscopy.

Hi Sylvia- My understanding of IBS is that it really can be a number of different symptoms.  Unfortunately, it is used often times when no one can figure out what's wrong with you.  I don't know if others would agree with me but I'd say - yes, you can have IBS without necessarily having constipation or diahrrea (I don't seem to ever get that word right).  The term 'irritable bowel' is just that- and irritated bowel- whatever that means for us. I know someone who gets just a ton of severe gas pain and I know somone who is constantly bloated and constipated and I know someone who only gets the big D.  Three people and three very different sets of symptoms.  I thought I was unusual (don't we all?) because I got this severe nausea and for awhile that was all I had.  i have a number of other symptoms as well but that was it for awhile.  And on this forum, you'll see that many people have many different symptoms.  By the  way, the colonoscopy isn't too bad- at least if you don't get much pain.  I know I've posted this before, but I rented a bunch of movies, loaded up on sprite and gatorade and settled down for the day.  You'll get through it fine.  I didn't feel a thing and was awake for the entire procedure (don't panic, most sleep) so I got to watch and it was interesting. However, some have worse experiences as you've seen.  I hope you find some answers.  Good luck.

PugandherPeeps,

I know this is an old post, but I was searching through some of the threads and I foud this. I have the same exact problem you do. I do not have D or C, only Stomach/abdominal pains, and the docs can't figure it out. I have been on a few different meds, and none of them have worked. Have you found any relief yet?
