Hi,

My knee doc told me to start taking glucosamine and chondroitin.  I only started it about 4 days ago, but it gives me incredible gas, bloating, and funky loose stools (funkier than usual).  I will be really disappointed if I can't stay on this.  I tried it about 8 years ago, and it gave me a little gas then, but not too bad.  But this is crazy now.

It gives me so much gas, that it causes intestinal spasms which hurt.  Just curious if anyone else here with IBS has tried it and if you have any trouble.  Thanks.

Thanks Jay4,
I had to stop it yesterday. The bloating and nausea was just getting out of control. I think I will rest my GI tract for a little while, and start back up on 1 tablet a day, and then slowly increase it.
It's such a drag to find something that might help with one problem, but then it causes other problems! Thanks for your help.

Hi Cathy,
Have you tried ginger to help soothe the nausea?
Good luck!

Hi Lil,
This has caused a flare-up in my reflux too, or I'd try it. But I have started making fennel tea, which is supposed to help the gas and bloating. Maybe it will indirectly help with the intermittant nausea.
If I were a normal person, I would lose my appetite with these kinds of symptoms......but nooooooooooooo, I have to be starving all the time! I'm not always choosing the right foods to keep all this GI turmoil calmed down. I did have rice for lunch.....and that helped. Unfortunately, DH is bringing pizza home!
I wonder if the fennel tea really works? If my reflux improves, I'll definitely make some ginger tea. I do have a piece of ginger root in my fridge. Thanks for reminding me about that remedy!

Hi there Cathy,

I started taking that as well for arthritis pain, especially for my knees...I was on it about a month and didn't find any difference, GI said that in Europe the docs use it all the time for arthritis, but it does nothing for the gut....I hope that you can get passed the side effects and maybe try again in a awhile????

Thanks Cyndi,
I've heard that you need to give it 2 months, before you can tell if it's going to help or not. But I just can't tolerate it. All my worst GERD symptoms came back with it, and my IBS worsened. It's just not worth it to me. I'm having knee surgery this week, so hopefully, that will help my knee out.
