Hi everyone,

Went for my usual flexible sigmoidoscopy this morning,  I have them about once a year.

The only thing is, everytime I have to go I have to do phsphate enema beforehand.  This is a bottle of solution attached to a plastic tube which goes into the rectum.  You then have to hold in the solution for abot five minutes and spend the next hour near a toilet!

When I do these, I get to the loo and go and then  have horrific cramps, vomit and feel hot and cold.  For that hour I don't know what to do with myself I feel that dreadful.  Its horrible.

This morning was the worst aswell as I felt that the enema didnt work as well as usual and I felt I was having to push so much to go the the toilet and empty.

Im so sore now and even the endoscopist said I was really red but didnt say to do anything about it, it would just settle down.  I think Im hurting from all the straining too.

At least its over for another year, I just don't think it should make me feel this ill.

I have so much pressure in my rectum now from all of this this morning.

Does this ever happen to anyone else??

I'll post this in the UC forum too

Thankyou for letting me moan!!!

I'd definitely tell my doctor no more of those kind of enemas because they make me deathly sick. You should not be vomiting and even the cramping should be not too terribly bad. There are other types of enemas out there that may not be so hard on you. And of course there are always the laxatives they make you take like for a regular colonoscopy. There are too many other things out there that will clean you out for you to be suffering so badly on one. Put your foot down about it and get something else next time.

The effects of the enema and sigmoioscopy have made me so sore inside.  Everything feels inflamed and I'm dreading going to the toilet again. I think it will hurt a lot.

It hurts so much.  Have just put in my prednisilone suppository and its so painful!  The doc said it would just calm down.

Thanks for the reply
