Because I'm still trying to figure out what I am up against -- IBS or IBD or a lil of both -- I was wondering, the people with IBS, after you eat something does your stomach immediately start gurgling? I don't mean the normal gurgling. I mean the gurgling that sounds like you are in the hull of a ship.

I just ate lunch -- piece of haddock in olive oil, little lemon and basil and white rice -- I started eating at 3 p.m. and almost immediately my stomach started with the gurgling. Is that an IBS thing and something I should expect?

Is there something that you all take that will quell the gurgling?

Hi cash,
My gut makes noises pretty quickly after eating. In fact, it makes noises all the time. I'm not even sure if it's gas or just the juices flowing, but sometimes I take Gas-X and it seems to help. Not all the time mind you. I'm not sure if there's anything else out there than can help with the gurgles....??? Hopefully someone else will be around to shed some light.

BTW - I love your "hull of a ship" metaphor. :-)

Hi Cash- Oh God, yes!!  Gurgling/noise making is very common with me.  And it makes me crazy sometimes, because sometimes it means I'm about to have big D or sometimes it just means I'm gurgly.  A lot of mornings, during rounds (work on a psych unit in a general hosp.), there's another social worker and myself (she also has IBS- neither of us has IBD) can commonly be heard, during moments of silence! Then the rest of the team (most of them know) laughs, which is fine because we do too.  One must have a good sense of humor for this!!  Good luck with your diagnosis and symptoms.

It's crazy.

I can't believe how loud it is sometimes. It's always been loud but it was never an all the time thing. Now, it just seems like no matter what I eat, how much or how little, it's always going. But I agree the problem with the gurgling is God only knows what it is bringing.

I try to laugh about it but it's getting harder and harder because I'm worried about trying to figure out which gurgle it is....
