Hi All,  I have not been on in awhile I was moving from Florida to Ohio to be closer to the Cleveland Clinic for treatment for my IBS..  I established with a new primary care doctor and she told me to try omega 3 fish oil for my IBS>.  Has anyone tried this..  I have a really hard time with any kind of vitamins or anything by mouth because of my stomach..  I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago but still have the pain everyday...  She also wants me to try natural hormone therapy cream anyone tried that??  I am kinda a freak when it comes to trying new drugs... THanks...

My fiance has been taking fish oil for several years now for whatever benefits it has--I think it raises your good cholesterol. I haven't heard of using it for your guts, but I'd think that you'd be willing to try most anything at this point. The only supplement I have ever had problems with was vitamin C. When I took some it gave me diarrhea. I don't have a problem with it, though, in fruit juices or as part of a normal vitamin regimen; just the mega-doses that may help you avoid a cold.

I can't say that I've heard of the hormone therapy cream before. She has confirmed that you are low on hormones, though? If you're low, then getting back in alignment can only help your mood and energy levels--it may even help your guts. But be prepared for some rough times while you and your doctor try to find the hormones and levels that balance you out. My mother took a year or more to get fairly regular, but even now they have to adjust her periodically to make sure she stays level.

Ryleigh,

Glad to see your post!  I'm glad that you found a PCP.  Have you been to the Cleveland Clinic yet?

Concerning the fish oil, many people swear by it.  I've personally never tried it, but maybe I need to start...I guess it wouldn't hurt.  My sister takes it, and she claims that it is a miracle for her.  Like both of us, she also has endometriosis and all of the related symptoms, and she said that the fish oil was a blessing.  The fish oils contain high concentrations of the omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce levels of prostaglands and inflammation.  Thus, that's why it most likely helps endo problems and some IBS problems.  If your stomach can take it, maybe it'd be worth a try. Hmmmm....maybe I need to try it too!

Good luck in Ohio, and take care.

Ryleigh,

I forgot to respond to the hormonal cream that your doctor mentioned...

I know several people that use that cream, and they all have had great success with it.  One friend also has lots of gut issues, and the cream was the only way she could get the hormones back in her system.

Take care.

Hi Ryleigh!

Glad to see you post and are you all settled in in Ohio??? It's been a rainy couple days, hasn't it? I don't have any info on Omega 3's other than I was thinking of trying them for my heart (I have PVC's) and they are supposed to help heart rhythm, too.

Do you have a CC appt yet??? They are great there, you will like it. I go back early December for endocrinology appt. I have not been to GI there- but my GI in Pittsburgh says unless I get worse he doesn't need to see me for a whole year- so let me know how it goes, maybe I will switch.

Hope you are well!
