hello I'm a 29 year old male in good shape other than the fact i have had upper left side pain for some time now, doc said he thinks it is ibs. I'm just worried it might be something worse, i fear having to be scoped, the thought of that to me is just bad. i'm just tired of the pain lately it seems to be getting worse. anyway does anyone have any tips or thoughts?

Hi gary,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
Has your doc done any non-invasive tests to better help pinpoint your problem? Blood tests or stool tests, maybe even an ultrasound?
Upper left quadrant pain can be any number of things. It can be just gas - which absolutely can be caused from IBS. In which case you might want to try Gas-X, Beano or peppermint capsules. It can also be a problem with your Pancreas or Kidneys. I think even pneumonia, gastritis and hernias can cause it too.
Do you have GERD? Have you been tested for H.pylori?
Sorry I'm not being too helpful. You might want to go back to the doc (or find another) to do more tests. And also, don't worry about being scoped. It really isn't bad. The worst part is drinking the laxative... the easy part is actually being scoped. You would be comfortably sedated for that.
Hopefully someone else will be around shortly to give their input as well.
Take care.

he has done blood and stool test. that's about it, i think its in my intestine, it is more painful before a movement. i will get constipation then diarrhea. i took fiber pills that helped for a bit, i just couldn't take them because of the horrible gas and painful cramping caused by them. sometimes it does feel like gas or blockage so ill try a gas relief and see what happens

thanks for the reply

My boyfriend has IBS and manages well just eating a high fiber diet.. Cause he suffers from C more than D.. We have him eating 2 high fiber meals a day along with fiber tablets. He does have bad gas but not any pain...

Different fibers affect people differently; you might try a different brand to see if it works for you without making your gas worse. It also can take a week or two for yrou body to adjust to it and to stop producing so much gas.
