Hi I'm new here, I've suffered for over 15 years with IBS, since I was about 10 years old. I'm a married SAHM of 2 beautiful kids ages, 3 and 1. IBD, Chrons, Ulcerative Colitis, IBS all run in my family so I guess I was doomed from the begining, lol. I even suspect my 3 yr old may be having some symptoms, but his pedi. says it's too early to test.

Anyhow, I woke up yesterday morning and just did not feel right all day, then last night it just hit me, and still today it has not gotten any better. I feel terrible and still am back and forth to the bathroom. I think I've had flare ups that have lasted for a few days but I feel especially weak and tired this time. I'm actaully wondering if its viral, but my kids are fine so far, and I'm not really nauseous. I'm just not sure why it's dragging out, I hate feeling like this. So how long does your typical IBS flare up last?

If I do something to get my system out of whack, I may be okay as early as the day after or it may take weeks to slowly get better. Eating something I shouldn't usually messes me up a day or two. Getting sick with a cold and having to take medicine--especially antiobitics--may mess me up for weeks. A lot of times, when I'm having a long period of difficulty like that, I'm not messed up every single day, but half or a majority of my days. And I may not even be real bad off, but I'm certainly not at my normal levals of functionality.

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping a good nights sleep will help me. My stomach is not even whats bothering me anymore, I've eaten and felt fine, it's the lack of energy that's keeping me down, and I have a headache now. It's hard to not have any energy with 2 little kids running around the house. I think I felt this coming on for days now, I just want it to be over with.
Thanks for your input.

If you have diarrhea fairly frequently (and possibly even if you don't), you may have problems with a vitamin deficiancy. You can try taking a basic multi-vitamin and see if this helps or you can go to the doctor and get a blood workup. Just be careful of the multi-vitamins that contain more than 100% of the daily recommended dose of certain vitamins in them. My mother, a nurse, says that what your body doesn't need it will just flush out anyways, and a doctor's nurse told me that flushing out a lot of excess vitamins is just that much harder on the kidneys. So, no need to pee money down the toilet and give your kidneys grief at the same time; 100% of your recommended daily allowance is just plenty.
